Hi there
Well got in EVO yesterday and the dash went yellow with a picture of differential and 4 wheels, with the message "service required".
As the car is due for its 50k service and its now on 49k I thought I'd take the car in for an early service.
So took car in and informed them of this error message, got a call saying it would appear the AYC pump has failed and unfortunately it can't be replaced until January 5th as its a job for the chief mechanic and that part cost £2000.
So I did some reading around and it is indeed true that AYC pumps do seem to failing in the 40-60k region on EVO's, or at least the X, even for an independent to do the job which involves them repairing/rebuilding the old unit cost over £600.
So lets just say I am quite thankful the car is still under warranty and this work will be completed under warranty and as such my service has cost me only £206
and that includes spark plug change.
I am told the car is perfectly safe to drive as it will just be in open diff mode, basically it won't handle as well towards the limit but apart from that is OK to drive, still it will annoy me knowing my car is not perfect so will be glad when its all sorted.
But still just a heads up all those with EVO's sub 40k miles soon to run out of warranty, extend your warranties as this seems quite a common failure on EVO's from searching on MLR for AYC pump, so my car might be high mileage but before the warranty is out many bits would have been changed for new.
