was in a branch of the above game selling shop today and noticed they pc titles are all reduced (inc new releases and there was only about half a shelf of them)

spoke to a member of staff who confirmed they are no longer selling pc titles as of the end of the year :(

looks like its steam or mail order only from now on :(

steam can be a bit on the pricey side for new titles :)

that said i got my copy of need for speed hot pursuit today for £14.99 which i cant complain with,

I've noticed a big culling in the number of PC games available in the high street its a shame.

its the store that were whining steam are taking all there sales the same store that in the late 90s was 80% pc titles then once the ps2 and xbox were released reduced pc games space to around 20%

its there own fault i hope they go bankrupt

Yes but can you get a refund on a game you've already purchased and played on Steam? Just bought BFBC2, horrible game wish I never bought it.

Probably easier to get a refund through Steam than the high street stores nowadays.

Maybe they'll reduce a lot of stuff to clear :) I picked up Alpha Centauri + Crossfire for 99p the other month :)

In my local shopping centre, recently both HMV and GAME have stopped selling PC games. The only one left is Gamestation, although the selection is pretty poor. None of the supermarkets have sold them for a long time.

How do you go about Steam and getting a refund? Bought the game yesterday although i've played it a bit.

Gaming is dying ^^

I'v not seen many worthwhile games released in awhile unlike the good old days where the developers actually tried to make a decent game that was new and different to everything else.

Now we just have clones or a big title game with terrible gameplay ruined for quick money by some greedy publisher. :(

No need for PC games in shops IMO. Steam and other digital distributor, the big river and other etailers are the way forward.

Worst case scenario for buying a title online is you have to leave your PC on over night to download it or wait a day or two for delivery. Back when Halflife 2 was new, it took me several days to get it down :p IIRC GTAIV was 15GB? That came down over night.

When stores stop selling PC games completely maybe Steam will be cheaper? I doubt it though.

I can't remember, maybe have to mail them although thinking about it I got a refund by sating I had been given the game as a gift, which I had after purchasing through Steam.

You can't get a refund through steam, only if you pre-order it and cancel the order before the game is released can you get a refund.

It would be a disaster in UK for PC gaming if retail games go away:

1: Virgin Media have stated on their forums they have a network wide issue which will not be fixed until mid March 2011 & until then it will not be possible to get superfast broadband speeds

2: BT are having major issues due to over capacity so their network speeds are poor as well for many you can only get 6Mb. BT are also throttling to 2Mb in the evenings right now for many users as they cannot cope with the traffic

Only a lucky few have superfast UK broadband speed so PC gamers need the retailors to continue to sell PC games.

Legally you can't force one. They will only give you one in a gesture of goodwill.

There are places on the internet where you can buy retail games??

You bought it in the sale, played the game and want a refund? Jog on.

Well it certainly hasn't affected my virgin 50mb line , I am downloading right now at 5mb/s and have downloaded almost 40gb in the last 2 and a bit days without any speed issues.
