I wish this game was still as populated, 200 players all engaged in massive conflict. How i miss you Joint Operations.

WoW... It has such a bad reputation now :(

Though some would say that its a direct result of WoW becoming so popular that it got that bad reputation in the first place. Most people I see complaining about WoW are complaining about the people who play it rather than the game itself.

The games that I wish were still as popular as they once were :

Ultima Online
Daoc.

(but only with the original kind of players rather than the newer generation of gamers)

Whilst agree...

I think my point is more focussed around the general perception of WoW by the general public... i.e. if you play it your a fat loser who has no life... which just isnt the case!!!

I think its actually other gamers whose perception of WoW is that you're a fat loser who has no life. I actually think that the general public would say that the people who play ANY game are fat losers who have no life :)

Quakeworld; one of the problems is that there are only around 30 active clans of which there is a fair range of skill levels, meaning that the number of clans you can realistically play against is around half that at most. So it is very much a case of 'same old faces', I do kinda miss the days where you would stumble across some clan you'd never heard of before.

That said, lack of popularity does bring with it a (relatively) mature community where the standard of games is typically very professional.

5+ years ago maybe but the current generation of consoles (Wii especially) have IMO greatly reduced the stigma attached to gaming. Where I work gaming certainly isn't a taboo subject no matter the age/gender/weight/social skills of the audience.

I'd say the key difference is more a long the lines that in the old days the general public wouldn't know the difference between any games but WoW is now almost pop culture in the sense that the 'general public' has actually heard of it and has some vague idea about what it entails.

It's a shame we still have biased programmes like Panorama giving gamers a bad name though.

Gaming isnt as taboo as it used to be, but to the general public its still viewed by many as something nerds do. If I was to poll the 468 people I work with as to whether playing video games was nerdy, certainly the majority would answer yes, and even though people are more aware of games today, if my work colleagues asked me what I was doing this saturday night and I replied that I was going to be sat at my PC, with some headphones on , running an elf about hitting boars with a sword , again the majority would indeed think I was a loser with no life :)

Ultimately it doesnt bother me in the slightest, I am a nerd and I do sit in the evenings chasing pixels around on my screen with my own pixels, but I like it so I am content and have no illusions about what I do, so I am happy to accept whatever label is deemed fit :D

It's the lost genres I miss. The MechWarrior sims and space combat sims like Wing Commander and X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter. I'd love to see a modern Wing Commander style game based on the Battlestar Galactica universe.

FPS are okay... but after a few years of playing Quake, Unreal Tournament and Half Life they became pretty dull. Kinda sad how unimaginative game developers are these days.

C&c renegade, best fps ever. simple, graphics weren't great. just fast paced and fun. could just jump straight in and have a great time.
So many new fps forget about the fun and enjoyment and just go for graphics or realism.
