older games you wish were still popular

Me and a mate have re-installed red alert 2 last week and have been playing it over hamatchi. Completely destroys most of the new games for fun. Maybe if more people install it, we can get some 2 v 2 action going :D

yea i know AK he was in defiance with me! great player but think he concentrated more on CTF!

what was ur name? i was mostly Westie or UnnamedPlayer :D lol

i miss that game so much! i went thru so many mice cause i used to brake them so much (not on purpose tho) lol!

Haha awesome mate, I do remember you being pretty badass lol. I would do anything to relive those days man with the RA3 map 1 server.

I think I even remember the color of your name sometimes lol, white with a yellow 'i' ?

My name was sl1p, I was a 56ker for yonks! I joined a clan called g1t don't know if you remember them hehe.

Quakeworld
OFP
MOHAA

Top 3 games for me. I still play BF2 these days but I don't think it's quite as good as those 3 were.

I might give Arma 2 another go as there seems to have been loads of patches since I last tried it.

Loved joint ops, still have it along with escalation, best game ever for ultra long range sniping.

Total Annihilation..on the old Wireplay :(

TA was great but Total annihlation kingdoms was epic, i remember spending like 9 hours downloading a small mod on dial-up haha

Great game, in recent years iv not really seen many games which will make me look back and say i was they were still popular.

They just dont make games like they used too.

C&c renegade, best fps ever. simple, graphics weren't great. just fast paced and fun. could just jump straight in and have a great time.
So many new fps forget about the fun and enjoyment and just go for graphics or realism.

Yeah, me too.

Renegade was pretty much my first online game that I played regularly and joined a community for the first time. It also got me into modding. It could've been so much more if it had the chance and was unique for the time.

Far Cry too as others have said. Just loved roaming the maps in the jungle taking people out and had so much fun. Shame punk buster ruined it.

Jedi Knight II (not as cheesy as it may sound), amazing multiplayer and a large community would sure make me play again. Loved the competitive play of that game

if my work colleagues asked me what I was doing this saturday night and I replied that I was going to be sat at my PC, with some headphones on , running an elf about hitting boars with a sword , again the majority would indeed think I was a loser with no life :)

Ultimately it doesnt bother me in the slightest, I am a nerd and I do sit in the evenings chasing pixels around on my screen with my own pixels, but I like it so I am content and have no illusions about what I do, so I am happy to accept whatever label is deemed fit :D

I know somebody at work who admits to doing that sort of thing but he's probably one of the most charasmatic (and certainly talkative) people in the office too, and playing games is just one of his pastimes. So while playing video games might be described as 'nerdy' by some I really don't think people are categorising people as losers for doing so.

The way I see it Joe Public would say somebody who rarely socialises, plays games everynight and doesn't have many other interests is indeed a 'loser with no life', somebody who enjoys gaming alongside an active social life - including the odd saturday night killing boars - probably not. Nearly all the people I know that openly talk about gaming are in long term relationships (implication being he 'loser with no life' tag possibly doesn't fit), people are just comfortable with the idea of people playing games now.

Calling yourself a nerd/geek is actually pretty common now and again has much less of a stigma. The number of nerds is increasing, spending 2hrs a day on the internet used to instantly mark somebody as a 'loser with no life' 10 years ago, but now every Tom, Dick and Harriet is doing it for 'social networking'.

So essentially what I am driving at is that even if behaviour is still viewed as 'nerdy', that in itself is still viewed differently than how it used to be. It's now something people chuckle about more than use in a hostile way.

Very good post, i know people who would have readily slagged of others for playing games online a few years ago, all of theese same people are now xbox junkies, ive always had a good social life, some of theese fellas i know barely leave the house now, and on the very odd night they do, they sit and discuss theyre gaming exploits. Their wives/girlfriends have named themselves the xbox widows club.

Quake World!

Quake 3: Rocket Arena 3 - Really do miss playing with my mates (Defiance) top french clan (pSYKo) and playing for England

TFC - again miss playing for best clans in europe/world (DW, SHS, Induce, =BC=, BIA)! and for England! (damn u Finland always beating us)

Best gaming days ever i doubt they will ever be the same, nor my reactions either :(

I remeber the first season of our clan in TFC. I was in DSH i was [DSH]Bastardos and in our group was AK47 and SHS, what a baptism of fire that was. I learnt sooo much from practicing with SHS. :D

Helbreath, that was fun playing on a Polish server, I got taught to buy and sell stuff in Polish :D, shame it was so many years ago, I forgot it all :(
