hi guys, my tv is ready to be picked up (46 inches) and I have no car.... any ideas on what I should do? I don't think joe public will be very forgiving on the underground.....
think I could use the buses?

Cab is the only solo answer.

You haven't got anyone that you could ask to pick it up in their car?

I would say you would be lucky to find a bus driver that would let you on with a 46" TV, even if you was let on the bus you wouldn't be able to do it alone with such a TV.

It will weigh an absolute lump, you won't be able to move it any real distance on your own.

I say bite the bullet and get a cab.. call around some cab firms and get some quotes.

Size will be the issue, not weight.

You certainly won't be able to carry it on any kind of public transport, and I doubt an ordinary black cab would be large enough either.

You'll need a van of some sort I'm afraid.

My brothers 40" Sony was actually delivered by a cab a couple of years ago. Just call a couple of local firms.

The weight of the TV isn't going to be your problem, just the size of the box that it comes in.

Interesting how lightweight these LED TVs are.

I retract my statement of "It will weigh an absolute lump".

I see LED TVs are typically around 15kg of this screen size.. peanuts compared to a plasma!

But, I still stand by the cab method.

My old 32" Sony Trinitron weighed in at 64kg :D Getting that up and down the very narrow stairs was a chuckle.

you can get taxi companies to get you a pint of milk if your prepared to pay

Indeed. Spike milligan used to get a black cab to pick up his pens from Harrods for him.

not really any different than a regular fare to them though accept instead of picking up a person they are picking up some goods.

i dont know why people see it was wierd

Yeah public transport is out for sure. Don't underestimate just how big the box will be for a 46" TV. I have one myself and when the box arrived there was a serious issue getting the thing in the lift. Imagine the size of the TV then add at least 6" - 10" to every dimension for the amount of packaging that is going to sit around it. I'd either go down the cab route or it might actually be cheaper (and easier) to just hire a van for a couple of hours.
