Poll needs re-doing tbh - the question is worded oppositely to that of the thread title. I expect many people will read the thread title instead of the poll and vote the wrong way...

I was banned for life for 'spamming' when i helped someone with the spec of something that was for sale, could not be seen as a bump or anything as i was not the seller so had no financial interest etc... Forgot what mod it was, but definetly over the top. Been about 3 years now and it still makes me a little angry.

The media do this also, any story about someone who has seen a UFO often makes the person out to be strange or even mentally ill...

Any story about religion often has a different spin despite there being a similar level of proof or evidence...

The problem is that although both me and you are atheists (well I assume you are atheist) I realise that I'm in the minority and out of 6 billion people at least 5 billion of them believe in some fictional deity.
You can shout science all you want but the fact is you (like me) are in the minority.
This means that you don't go insulting people just for the sake of it.
Why the hell would you want to mention eating a bacon sandwich in a Ramadam thread?
Only one reason - to troll and upset.
 
I think the mods do a great job really. I haven't been here that long. But they are listening more to posters
And getting feedback. The MM thread is a good example.

I don't post that much but I am constantly reading threads and posts. I think it's a Case of I don't say much as 90% of the stuff I say is stupid.
 
The whole religion thing is a can of worms. I do sort of agree with rypt - if I decided to tell you all that fairies visited me in the night and told me some stuff you'd all quite rightly think I was properly bonkers. Many people would laugh. The only fudamental difference with religion is that millions of overs think the same thing.

It seems a bit unfair that religious people get special protection and conspiracy theroists are fair game.

But then unlike rypt I am learning when to just shut up.

On what grounds? We see numerous threads come and go that are effectively RSS feed Daily Mail shock headlines, and invariably the majority of OcUKers tend to defend the ethnic minority whilst at the same time LOLing at religion. I don't recall seeing any blatant racism in any of these threads, albeit I don't pay them particular attention and I think that the vast majority of us just tend to ignore these kind of threads.

There are some racist people on here just as, shock horror, there are racist people everywhere.

I don't have an issue with the way these threads are moderated.
