Ignorant iPhone users

As for the market share argument, that means nothing really. Android should be the major os on the market in terms of share, it's on hell of a lot more phones, from budget to premium ;)

Android is just an os, the iPhone is part of a brand, an image. One that isn't watered down by crap products :p

Indeed. The one thing that Apple has going for them is their brand.

Personally, I don't believe their actual hardware to be up to much, but they ALWAYS present it in such a slick manner that it appeals to everyone. Specs vary by needs of the customer, but everyone wants their new purchase to look good.

Apple is a prime example of the power of marketing.

Android and iOS, for all their similarities, couldn't be more different.

How do they judge 'best' then? The one that has the most adverts?

As I said in an earlier post, they judge it in much the same way as a piece of jewellery, or an item of clothing. Just because phones can easily be 'spec'd', doesn't mean that everyone uses that as a way to decide what to buy.

for me the short time i used an iphone was from seeing android on low spec handsets that had laggy interfaces and my hate for resistive touch screens which are no longer as widespread,i do understand that android is a decent oc but 16 months ago the handsets i used were poor implementations. i enjoyed the iphone but i got sick of the branding and fanboy mentality that accompanied it so i ditched it and settled for a basic phone that would fill my needs until something i really fancied cropped up.
no one can deny for all its shiny BS that apple products are well built sturdy and robust, IP4 seems like a very well put together device very rugged in a ?!non rugged way!? and styled very very well.

Any way after a long wait and several hours of research i went for the new kid on the block and got an omnia 7 with wp7 and if im hounest i think the fact it was a new product in direct competition with android and ios that hadnt been mass accepted yet made it more appealing to me, much in the same way android would allways have a strong following as it was a capable opponant to ios and there would allways be a pocket of the public who would "rebel" for want of a better word against apple and its goods.
this said the build quality and feel of the omnia with its excellent and smooth operation of the os on the device along with a strong brand behind it to incorrige development was my main reasons. though i like any one else want something we find appealing and for some people style and image come higher in priority than substance and so they buy into brands blindly. i wouldnt put this down to ignorance, more the material culture that is prominent.

Mmmm that Omnia 7 looks great, the OS seems pretty slick too, though what would irritate me would not being able to tailor it a little more to my needs. How is it for customisability?

basic, colour schemes and tile placement in the predefined list, wallpaper on the lock screen that you really only see when removing the lock lol! theres rumour of another big update in February and i think they have been listening to a lot of what users are requesting but this is just my guess and nothing has been leaked but id expect stoff to be in the pipeline.

for me at least its enough to tide me over, id like to see additions but id not be too disappointed if i dont

Helping my uncle migrate his Contacts from his Nokia last night to his new i4

Craziness, 400 contacts had to be marked one by one then sent to sim card then the simcard put back into the iPhone then imported, the Nokia doesn't take micro sims either so I had to wedge it into it until it was detected LOL. All because there's no way to accept contacts over bluetooth because bluetooth is only for a headset.

Oh, this had to be done twice because the sim only holds 200 contacts at a time.

It's **** like this Steve Jobs, **** like this....

Does anyone have a hard time explaining to people what Android is?

I have plenty of friends of have iPhones who all pay extortionate amounts and they refuse to believe that Android is as good as iOS!

Generally I get a lot of "ohh whats that?" - When I explain that it's an Android handset their faces go blank as if to say "android what?"

Silly people :D
Personally I just think there are a large amount of ignorant mobile users that own smartphones for the sake of it - they use a tiny amount of the features due to just not understanding what theyve bought and never actually having the need in the first place or comprehension to communicate this at point of sale. They really would be better placed by having a standard mobile as features as email access for us is actually useful to them is an 'ooo' factor...

a lot of these people are either purely mis-sold by shop staff or told by a more technical friend/relative that 'x phone' is the one to get and neither really take into consideration the end user. Normally they end up with an iPhone just because of how prevalent the marketing is and if they shirk at the price they end up with an Android phone...

This still doesnt cover up the fact they are really unaware in the first place

ps3ud0

Im in one of the 'hate Apple' camps, basically they are poor value for money, and the attitudes of their users when they get one, its like those features never existed before, its like owners of BMW 316, its the best thing eva!!!!

But what Apple have done is, made everyone up their game, and they have convinced the public to embrace technology (however flawed it maybe), and thats not a bad thing. Hats off to their marketing department alround, anything new that comes out from their stable, is the next must have gadget, even if the next gen item is hardly any different from the last gen.

Sadly for me Apple have become everything they hated about MS!

Its not flawed as such, its just certain basic features like C&P, BT functionality and what not took ages to get implemented correctly, even video calling, it just comes across as half assed in terms of implementation.

i think its slowly becoming as 'cool' to hate apple as it is to love them, the tech is fine, it was market leading when they released the iphone and has moved along progressively through the gens and is still superb quality just at an obscene price, the hick-up with the antenna issue was resolved wasnt it?

all in all there tech and marketing guys bring features to users that wouldn't normally use them, it does pave the way for the success of certain things and it does it well, the only reason they charge so much is because people will pay, if all the alternatives were comparably priced id hike a guess most that don't would opt for the iphone, me personally i don't feel the need or desire for apple in my life so can say these things without a fanboy tag but no one can honestly deny there good at what they do.

Also, next time they show signs of fail just tell them to load apple.com and you do the same on your phone. Let them speak after their phones are still loading it :p

iPhone user ignorance or yours? The iPhone is a fine device, exceptionally well put together and with excellent software, both official and home brew.

I am sure android is nice too

Yours,

Ignorant iPhone User :p

androids nice

IOS is also nice

i prefer the IOS hardware at the moment though...

Couldn't you have done it by syncing it with a computer?

I purchased an iPad even tho i dont think much of Apple as a company, it just does what i need/want very well and with ease.

Couldn't you have done it by syncing it with a computer?
nope because the sort of people who spend huge amounts of time hacking and modding android become technically retarded and find everything so damn awful when someone passes them an iphone

and of course vice versa in the other direction

surprised you have never seen this phenomenon before :p

Not at all. It's paying for the brand and image for a lot of people. No different to buying cars/houses/clothes/watches etc.

Absolutely, the generic iPhone user doesn't care as much about the OS of their 'phone as they do about the shiny Apple logo and its fashion icon status.
