LOTRO - Good, busy server?

All servers are currently buzzing, its hard for them to tell. Best not going for the highest populated anyway as you could end up in a queue which has been constantly happening to a mate of mine who switched to snowbourne before it went free to play.

Laurelin, its also an RP server, but thats not a bad thing as the community is generally better and very few actually RP.

is that true? lol why would people join a Rp if they dont really Rp? the community is great on every server aswell played on gilrain and a new one recently and both have awesome communities.

Traditionally Eldar and Snowbourne are the highest population servers, with Gilrain lowest, however since F2p and them starting to recomment which servers to go to I have heard it is evened up somewhat

But if you are just starting out, I'd recommend Withywindle. There is a decent population but they are all starting out as well so they will be concentrated in the lower areas. There are still experienced people who have rerolled to help as well.

General mmo reasons for joining RP servers aside from the RP include :

Often a more mature userbase.
Usually more sensible playernames so you aren't surrounded by Hobbitwizzy and chucknorrisor the elf.
Larger number of player run events in keeping with the IP , which help flesh out the game
Sometimes less of a focus of getting loot item #### or stats and more interest in simply having fun.

Those are the reasons why I've joined Rp servers in so many mmos, and the Rp of course. :)

That's an our right lie, Lately, Gilrain has had the highest activity in terms of log ins of any EU server.

Considering they just wrote "I believe" I wouldn't really call it a lie - more a mistake on their part. A "lie" suggests something way more sinister...

I'm downloading this at the moment, might as well play it for a while since there's sod all decent games to play this Xmas and Batman:AA has been a dullfest so far.

I'll most likely be starting out new as I doubt my old Lv20'ish beta char still exists. I've no idea where most ocuk peeps are though...

Edit: Oh my char is still there lol. Lv15 Guardian on Laurelin.

I wouldn't count on Gilrain as being the lowest these days, since F2P it's population has exploded, on account that Codies were recommending it as the next best server to Withywindle. Looking at some of the login figures posted on some site (on CM's forums) it actually appears to be the busiest server since F2P.

As for Laurelin, being better/more mature cos it's RP, not from what I've experienced.. and a quick trawl through the forums tends to highlight some of the utter pettyness that is present on that server! Seems that a fair few RP'ers see themselves as something better than those who don't RP.

You get people like that in every group though. I see pvpers on mmos who are petty and see themselves as something better than those who don't pvp. I see raiders on mmos who are petty and see themselves as something better than those who don't raid. I see idiot gamers who are petty and see themselves as something better than those who RP and take every opportunity to label RPers negatively. Every group has people like that, experiences will be different from person to person but I experienced the most mature mmoers in UO on the unofficial RP server, I experienced the most mature mmoers in Daoc on the RP servers and so on and so on all through my mmo years.

There's always people like those above, particularly on forums where usually you only get complainers because those who are content are playing rather than posting on forums. Generally speaking though I find RP servers have a nicer community where I can ask a question and not get abuse instead of an answer , I don't have a chat box full of your mum jokes, chuck Norris gags and internet hardman swearing and so forth.

I've only played on Laurelin, so this might be something that is just generally true of LOTRO players, but in general the players on Laurelin seem to be on average more mature than players in other MMOs I've played.

I've played on 4 LoTRO servers, not including a US server and Nimloth. And to be frank, I found Laurelin to be the least friendly of the lot.. too many self appointed 'upholders of the lore' for my liking. Which is a personal opinion of course, and I have no problem with these people playing the game how they want to play it... good for them. I start to get slightly peeved when some of them turn up on the official forums as they frequently do and start trying to dictate how things should be for the rest of us on other servers too!

As for your mum, Chuck Norris jokes and general abuse... can't say I've experienced that to any great extent on any LoTRO server (not EU ones anyway), and especially not on Gilrain.

I also don't think the LoTRO community is so much superior to any other MMO that I've played either, it just appears that many people seem subscribe to that notion..

It all basically boils down to : "Come join our server, it's the best!"

The difference is that the Laurelin people are trying to get you to do it by reasoned argument, the Gilrain people are doing it by calling people liars :p
