Anyone Dislike Christmas?

I'm 20, so don't feel excited about it, not religious, most of my family live in another country so I can't see them, so I'm stuck with my parents (nothing wrong with them, but its been like that the past 20 years), hate buying presents, theres nothing I want that doesn't cost hundreds and am slightly anti consumerism anyway.
Food is fine, but its just a slightly advanced Sunday roast, so nothing that special. Don't drink so not going to get drunk, especially not just with my parents, only child so have no younger siblings to see get excited.

So yeah, whilst I don't hate it, it doesn't do that much for me any more.

A fair point well made. I think it stems from early childhood, but I don't really remember why. I discussed the issue with a therapist and had a bit of a 'funny turn' and couldn't continue.

All I can say is that I feel very uncomfortable this time of year.

Show me on the doll where Santa touched you.

It's totally odd that a hugely massive majority of people have no religious beliefs whatsoever ( and that includes myself ) and yet go absolutely Ape at Christmas forgetting it's supposed to be a Christian festival.

It's a pagan festival in all but name ;)

To answer the OP, what's not to like? Time off Uni/work (or triple pay :p), family, friends, presents, food and drink. Awesome.

Ssh, work days off are a bonus.

But no, now that I'm not a child it does nothing for me whatsoever.

It's just an excuse to get hammered, nothing wrong with that of course :D

All this as far as I'm concerned. I do hate that all the retailers put peer pressure on us to overindulge at Xmas though. That & the fact you only bother to contact or see distant relatives or old friends at this time of year, when you don't bother any other time of year & you should unless you have fallen out with them for some reason.

I love it, a week free from obligations, good food, good company and decent music, games and movies. Some of you guys sound so depressed.

What a depressing bunch of comments. Christmas is a great time of the year. My eldest daughter who is 3 really made the whole event magical again thinking Santa is going to visit in the night and drop of presents. It's all she has been talking about this whole month.

I think you lose interest in Christmas when you are about 12 to adulthood. But when you have your own kids it becomes magical again.

Had a perfect day until I have to go to work at 8pm.

If you guys can't enjoy Christmas I hope you all have a happy new year instead ;)

It's always amusing to see the middle-class going on a desperate frenzied shopping trip on boxing day in order keep the boredom at bay - it beats caring/interacting with others.

I feel sorry for people who "hate" Christmas :(

If they honestly dont have anyone who they would like to spend a few days off work with getting drunk and eating loads of yummy food, then they have my pity :(

I feel sorry for you if you only spend time with family and eat good food for 2/3 days a year.

+1 couldn't have put it better myself. Nicely done.

+2 my inlaws have buggered off to sunnier climes for Xmas....win win! :)

I'm not Christian so don't celebrate it on a religious basis.
Even if you were, christmas is not even mentioned in the holy scriptures (bible). Christmas is really a pagan festival. I think the name should be changed to something more suitable to the worldly aspect of the winter celebration.

I love it.

Decorating the house, being around the whole family eating, drinking and playing board/card games, giving and receiving presents, such a laugh.

I don't get all the I hate christmas, and why don't you spend other times of the year with your family comments. I don't know about anyone else but my family are pretty damn busy most of the year making it difficult to get everyone together in the same place at the same time. Christmas is generally the one time of year when no one has work or commitments outside the family.

Plus I get awesome presents :p

I quite like the holiday itself, it's the media/retail in your face marketing push running up to christmas that gets on my nerves. Radio is shocking for this, between the ads and the christmas no 1's ...uuggh
