I'm at a bit of a toss in the moments since I'm not sure what to take

I play games at 1920x1200 16/32xAA/16xAF, sometimes also at a multimonitor setup. I want the best image quality.

I got 3x Gainward GTX 580's.

And I'm looking for at two possible systems.
Get an AMD Phenom II X6 1100T for my MSi NF980-G65 (3-way-SLi) with 8GB of Ripjaws CL9 1333Mhz.

OR switch out the setup with the following:

Intel Core™ i7 Quad Processor i7-950
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus CPU
2 sets Kingston DDR3 HyperX 1600MHz 6GBKit w/3X HyperX 2GB DDR3, CL9-9-9-27
ASUS Rampage III Formula, Socket-1366 OR EVGA X58 FTW3

What would provide the best platform for highres/High level AA gaming and still be somewhat future proof
I know Intel has HT, but it doesn't really level up with 6 physical cores, and as for games in 2011 they are being announced for hexa-core optimized. But on the other side Intel just shows raw performance at the current situation today.

I hope you can help me shed a bit light

I would wait a couple of weeks and see what comes with the launch of Sandybridge, this is an option that shouldn't be over looked and even if none of the Sandybridge take your fancy it could see the price of other chips tumble, however if you can't wait (or don't want to) then I would go with the i7 (Its pretty identicle to my system tbh)

I ruled out Sandy Brigde due to the bad OC potentials and also since it's the K versions that can be OC'ed just a bit. I don't know if it'll have affect on pricing since it's just replacing s1156 ?

The K versions can be overclocked more than "a bit". Apparently they have a maximum unlocked CPU multiplier of 47x, which means you should be able to reach 4.7 GHz if your voltages or temperatures aren't restricting you.

Well anyhow it wont be Sandy bridge - I got at case, psu, ssd, drive and 3x gtx 580's needing a "home" right now ;)

So the 1090T would be an ok platform for the GTX 580's ? Then of course I'd only have to upgrade the CPU and not there entire system.
But whatever I just want whats best for the GTX 580's and holds the longer. (1½-2years I wont the setup to run).

Get the 930 instead with a H50 cooler or something similiar, all i7s clock the same. 4.2ghz+ will set you good for a few years.
You better get another two 1920x1200 screens to make full use of 3 580s in SLi!

The store only has Ci7 950 and it's priced the same way as the older 930 :p

I have 1x 1920x1200 and 3x1600x900 22 screen is use. Depends on what I'm doing :)

So I guess bascially it's screw Hexacore Phenoms and go Intel Core i7 since they still be the stronger CPU's even well into 2011 ? :)

Definitely the i7 950, the X6 struggles to keep up with it even when all 6 cores are utilised... And for anything that uses 2-4 cores the i7 roflstomps it.

Ok also into year 2011 ?. We are seing games utizlizng 4 cores now ans snatching at 6 too ... I've seen HAWX 1 & 2 doing so.

Hmm thought this was going to a fairly easy pick but I'm getting more and more confused. I'm not seeing real game result showing very little difference between the two setup and even in some games the X6 is taking over due to distributing workload onto all six cores something that BC2 and Dirt 2 is very fond of. And when adding AA/AF the differences are getting very small indeed...
All that makes me wonder if the Ci7 isn't just a bit waste if I'm not going to get any better results than by just upgrading the CPU in the current setup.

The Phenom II X6 1075T can be had for around £150 to £160 and also has an unlocked multiplier like the Phenom II X6 1090T and 1100T.

The 95W version of the Phenom II X6 1055T has a locked multiplier but is supposed to be a good for overclockig too.

Also, with three GTX580 cards you will need to have a motherboard which can run three PCI-E lines at PCI-E 2.0 8X or 16X electrical.

AFAIK,the P55 based motherboards cannot run three PCI-E lanes in this configuring and probably the same may happen with the P67 based motherboards too.

Anyway, since you already have an AM3 motherboard getting a Phenom II X4 or X6 would be the cheapest way forward.

IMHO,getting a pair of GTX580 cards would also have made more sense too.

Eh?

Sandy Bridge's are being clocked to 5GHZ. Their multi is unlocked. 5GHZ on air, and people are benching 4.8GHZ plus.
