need an estate for about £3K = for wife and 1 2yo and 2 boys 8 an 10. car used for school trips but more importantly for camping holidays hence estate = room.

suggestions welcome folks,

basically looking for user reviews.

Thanks in advance :)

A V70, V40 is getting quite old for your budget and V50 might be too small, and iirc it's just a focus underneath...

Safe, spacious, comfy and reasonably reliable. A quick look on UK sites shows many 2001 V70's for 3000...

For the spec it had to ba a 2.0l petrol Mk3 Mondeo Estate. There isn't anything better at under £3k.

3k gets you something like this

2.0 Petrol, modest 78,000 miles, Ghia X trim with all the toys including leather.

Most of the V70s for this money are 2000 or older models, with most of them having 100,000 + miles.

A lot of poverty spec ones as well, not many nice ones to be had at all. Definately more for your money with the mondeo.

Thanks for all the reply's guys, I hadn't even thought about the mondo, tbh A4 avant was top trumps until this post,, I'll scour arournd and talk to the Mrs an she what she prefers.

But thanks once again, really appreciated.

Audi A4 for this money will be a lot older and lot more hassle than the mondeo.

if you dont mind the image, the mondeo is an excellent practical choice.

Id consider a Galant Estate at this value. You could get a 2003 V6 with leather etc etc for around £2500.

Reliable, comfy car with a good chassis. Some dont like the interior but it was fine for me. Lots of room.

I've had a MG ZT-T 190 for the last 3 / 4 years, it's been a great car, in that time the only thing thats gone wrong with it is the battery.
normal driving I get about 26~ish mpg, it's no rocket thats for sure tbh i'd have a good look at a diesel one see what they're like.
but it's full loaded and BIG.
Well worth a looky :)

At the cheap end of the car market you want the newest thing you can find to stand you in good chance of not having a bit of a money bit. You also don't want to buy something that can cost a bit to run - because if you wanted to throw away a pile of cash running a car you'd probably spend more than £3k in the first place.

Therefore goodbye 2.5 litre MG-ZT, goodbye Saab, goodbye Volvo and goodbye Audi.

Hello Ford Mondeo 2.0 Estate, circa 2004.

Hello Ford Mondeo 2.0 Estate, circa 2004.

I wouldn't say goodbye to SAAB- Clicky

Slightly over budget but newer and imo nicer than any £4k Mondeo.

Another vote for Saab, you can get a decent 9-5 or 9-3 for not a lot of money.

Wowzers that Saab is cracking value for money! Only worry is the engine, can imagine an 2.0T will throw up problems later down the line.
