*** The Official ATI Radeon HD 6970 & 6950 Reviews, Discussion and Overclocking Thread ***

well.....seems I bought the wrong GPU if the unlocked shaders thing is true... Wonder if there is anything that could be done with the 6970? I know it's most likely impossible, but imagine they had disabled shaders on it as well? would be grand

I was just looking at stats, and I just realised that according to GPU-z, my 6970 isnt getting anywhere near its stated Texture Fillrate.
It should be hitting 84.5 GTexels/s at stock speeds, but mine is hitting 70.4GTexels/s at stock (Same as the 6950). With its current overclock, it is hitting 75.2GTexels. Is this just a misread from the catalyst drivers, an error on the card itself, or will this extra be released in the next drivers?

Just noticed, my settings were fubar... redone with the 'standard' settings that most people seem to use...
and got the following..
FPS:39.2
Scores:987
Min FPS:24.2
Max FPS:79.0

Ok, I realise my card doesnt actually support DX11.. or tesselation, but I expected the difference to be more in the region of my fubar settings...

Flashed my XFX HD 6970 to ASUS Bios, running 950/1450 at 1.22volts in smart doctor. Getting 5400/5500 in 3D mark 11 :). Very happy with this card, stays very quiet and runs really cool using antec 900 case.

Looking forward to seeing some custom or unlocked bios's. Have tried to alter bios using RBE Editor but card will not boot, hopefully they will release a new version with Volatge control for core and memory I think this card will overclock a long way

The HD 6970 is still the best card out of the two, It has a much higher overclock potential using 8 pin and 6 pin connectors, only cost me around £30 more than the HD 6950. I imagine in a few months when custom bios's and volt control at bios level are available it will reach ridiculous speeds :)

Im hoping that HD 6970 has some shaders locked aswell, it was rumoured to have 1900sp imagine if this was true and could be unlocked lol. I can dream...

I don't know how GPU-z works but my overclocked 6970 says 76.0 GTexel/s. I would have thought this would need to be read from a stored value somewhere as otherwise wouldn't it need to run a benchmark to see what it can push through? Just my thought.

This has nothing to do with

Cost you more than 30 over a 6950 too.

Im not sure what that means?

I look at it like this, compare stock HD 6950 to stock HD 6970 and hell yeah I think an extra £30 was well worth it for the top end, both cards are great value for the money if you can afford the extra £30 or so for the HD 6970 I think it is worth it :). Were only just starting to get to grips with overclocking these cards and bios modding etc, sure the HD 6970 will prove to be a great overclocker..

I hope so, how are you overclocking your 6970 atm exactly? I've got one coming (HIS 6970)on the 30th to go in an Antec 902 so it's good to know it will fit fine. :D

It's good news for the 6950 I just hope the 6970 has some nice overcloking room too !

Just found an updated version of GPU-z that reads the correct values, so now my card reads 91.2GTexels/s :D

Using the asus bios and overclocking with asus doctor tweak software thing. I don't like overclocking like this tbh just seeing what the card can do, hoping we can get some good custom bios's or they release some overclocked cards and will grab one of those bios'. I much prefer to flash the card and forget about having to run software aswell. Got the core up to 1025 at 1.35 volts..
