Hello People again!

I have been trying and thinking and researching for ages, and now I am coming to you guys for advice/ help!

My most likely system:
i5 760
XMS3 2x2 = 4gb ram
Antec TruePower New Modular 650W Power Supply
Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM
Zalman Z7 Plus Midi Tower Case - Black
Akasa AK-CCX-4002HP Venom CPU Cooler
Motherboard = eirther Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD4 Intel P55
or
Asus P7P55D-E Intel P55
I dont know which one!

Im open to SLI or Crossfire.. I am planning on playing CoD Bo, Medal of Honor, Crysis those kinda games. Not decided on which resolution!

So please suggest away! Thank you very much guys!

For that price, I'd be tempted to go for a gtx570, as it's very slightly ahead of the 6970. Having said that, a lot of people seem to be having success 'unlocking' their 6950's into full fledged 6970's recently. There's a big topic on it somewhere, I'll dig up the link.

There is of course a chance it doesn't work, but the 69xx series have a BIOS switch, allowing switching between a flashable bios, and a locked factory default, meaning the card will still be usable if the flash proves unstable.

WOW! Thank you guys for the quick responses, the gtx570 is over budget, is it worth going over for just a single card>?.
And the 6850, to a 6870 sounds nice! Still cant decide!!!!! :) help!

EDIT: Invertigo, you have 470 SLI, how does that do?

The 570 is only over budget at overclockers, you can find it for around £270 elsewhere though ;)

I was gonna go for an SLI set up (gtx 460 1gb), but when i queried on these boards a couple of users who had SLI set ups advised investing all the cash in a single card.

The reason being that the heat casued by two cards is problematic as well as a large amount of noise. They also mentioned support for SLI / CF isnt a walk in the park.

470 SLI just shrugs off anything I throw at it! :p Though it's worth remembering you'll be looking at £320+ at minimum for it. Cheapest I can see from the major e-tailers is around £185 per card. I just got lucky with mine, grabbed my first on TWO for £180 and got the second as b-grade, £158

SLI heat issues are a non-issue if you have good case airflow. Noise for me is barely higher than a single card, while having the performance to stomp any single card out right now.

True, some game's dont support SLI/xfire, but that just means the second card is sat there doing sod all. I have never ran into any issues due to it, as games nowadays generally all support it.

wiked! good to know dude.
Now you have me tempted by an SLI set up! hehe i think ill just go for the 6950, and maybe add another later :P

Sounds like a plan. I only went 470 as it was the best card I could afford at the time, and made sure I had the option of SLI by having a beefy psu and an sli mobo :)

Get the best single card you can afford, which right now would seem to be a 6950 flashed with a 6970 bios. As I said, the only reason I went 470 was my gpu budget at the time was £200. Then a few months later I plumped up for the second

GTX460 SLI 1GB cards will provide the best overall performance for £270. SLI and a crossfire now works consistently well with very few issues.

For a single card I would normally say go for the GTX570 due to superb performance, quiet running and overclockability. However, it seems just about all 6950's will unlock to 6970, hence you can get 570 performance for only £214.

If you can put up with the 6950/6970 fan nose, that is the way to go. If you want a quiet single card get the 570, but if you want top performance opt for GTX460 SLI or maybe even 6850 SLI (both will be noisy if the top card sits right next to the bottom card).
