hi,we just got a cat-kitten 21 weeks old and we just got home with her.I had a good look at her before we decided to get her.But now we are home i examined her properly and she seems to have a slight big stomach. Its hard to tell but when u rub her body u can feel that her stomach is bigger than the rest of her body. Its like she has a beer belly or something. Is this something to be scared about.? I cant feel any lumps its more like puppy fat.

Worming or hasnt gone to the toilet since shes been home or a bit fat.

Go to the vet, without proper examination and training, it is impossible for anyone here to tell.

Pro Tip:

If your going to or thinking about pet insurance, DO IT NOW.

Anything you disclose to your vet or existing conditions will not be covered once they become known.

ie. lets say your cat likes to eat plastic bags, (some male cats do like this btw) and you tell your vet, if later you buy pet insurance, and that record is on your cat at the vets - its not covered.

dont think i would get pet insurance. Its very expensive,i would say more than my own insurance. But that aside the cat seems very playfull and aware of things around her.Its just the stomach thing is bothering me.A trip to the vets is a good first step. The thing thats worrying me is that she's up the duff. But like i said i cant feel any lumps just a bit fatty. Will just have to hope and see.

If you don't get pet insurance (it's about £10 per month) then you are a fool tbh and deserve everything you get. As an example one of ours just before xmas (only 4 years old) was diagnosed with bladder stones that needed removing, the cost of this was £1200. Thats twelve hundred pounds! That equates to 10 years of insurance payments gone in one go. Save yourself the heart ache and get her insured.

As for bloated stomach, sounds like she needs worming, but you need to go to a vet to confirm it as it's not a good idea to over dose tjem on worming tablets. Plus she will need vaccinations anyway most probably.

Don't talk BS. Pet insurance isn't that expensive. If you can't afford £5,6 or 7 a month then you can't afford a kitten/cat. Simple as that.

Pet insurance is one of the few insurances I actually "buy into" other than compulsory stuff. I know many people(pets) that it has saved. If you are the sort of person who can randomly cough up large quantities of money when the animal gets ill then fair enough, thats a risk you take.

I for one couldn't afford insane vet bills if my cats were to become seriously ill or require lift saving treatment. I also couldn't live with myself if I couldn't afford it and something happened to one of them.

LOAM's advice is spot on in my opinion. I know one lady who I work with who has a 7 year old cat and he needed a range of scans which cost around £3k. He's fine now but she certainly wasn't in the game to afford £3k in one hit of treatment. Also, 3k is more than you would ever pay for the pet's lifetime of insurance payments. The cat might never become seriously ill and you've done well, or you might pay £1k over 15-20 years of its lifetime for peace of mind and it actually pay off. Depends how important the animal is to you I guess...

Please think carefully about reviewing insurance, I really do urge you to think about it. Plenty of good information on the net to get a good deal with a good insurer.

Oh, and take your kitten to a vet!

I allready have one cat from a kitten.Never had insurance and i dont believe in getting it for this cat.So i am not talking bs in anyway.I pay £5 only a month for my health insurance and at my vets which i have checked its £9 a month.Because i dont get pet insurance i cant afford a pet..Load of rubbish^^.I have more money than u i bet.

You pay far more than £5 for health insurance - it's the NHS and it's paid for by all manner of taxes. The £5 you pay is likely some kind of cover plan.

Being blunt if you take the kitten to the vets without insurance and something is wrong and it's expensive then you may as well chuck the kitten in the river.

Insurance does exactly what it's supposed to. It covers you against the possibility of having to destroy your cat because it's too expensive to treat what's wrong. You choose between paying the whatever-it-is-a-month and having the peace of mind, or not paying it and running the risk of losing kitty.
