Are Sky TV subscription prices too high...

I think everyone would love to see sky cheaper...

But........................

look at all the great movies and other stuff you get for only about £12.50 per week..

I would have pay about £12 to rent out only three movies from my local blockbuster,
plus paying for car fuel & wear/tear to drive there & back twice for each movie.Plus all the hassle of having to out and pick them up and return them..

Better of signing up to LoveFilm. Rent DVDs, Blurays plus stream movies.

After the 5 months, I’m cancelling Sky completely and moving to Virgin, at least then I am paying for channels I actually do watch.

But is Virgin really any cheaper though? If you want the full package plus sport and movie channels on Virgin it's £59 a month, for less channels than Sky.

For the low end packages it's a little bit cheaper, but with less flexibility in package options. For example you can only get History or Nat Geo channels on Virgin with the top package, while with Sky you could opt for variety and knowledge packs for £20/month. Virgin does get you a nicer on-demand service in return though.

I'm actually in the process of moving from Sky to Virgin myself, but cost won't be much different and the likelihood of Virgin not getting Sky Atlantic is causing me to hesitate.

The amount it costs you would think they would only have adverts at the end of a program not every 10mins!

I should really cancel it as I mainly download US shows or buy box sets. Only live TV these days is the news or nme or BBC/C4 which I could do on freeview.

The amount of advertsing and the length of adverts is laid down by Ofcom. They have 3 adverts per hour show or one per half hour show. Sky is no different in that respect to ITV, channel 4 or channel 5.

The thing that really ****es me off is Boxing on Sky Box Office. They charge you £14.95, then they have up to 24 minutes of ads per fight, and about 15 minutes of ads between each fight. It's bloody extortion. How can the BBC only charge £15 odd per month and give you a dozen completely ad free channels.

I pay about £75 i think for sky world HD, ESPN and landline, do i think its expensive...yes, could i live without it...probably but wouldnt like it. I might give them a ring in the new year though to see if they can sort me a deal out

What peas me off about sky is that if you don't subscribe to a package the channels are still there and when you click them it asks if you want to upgrade your package! That just means that the EPG gets more crap on it that it's worth having !!!

Phoned them up and the contract expires month into new year. I have a cancelation request pending on that end date. Sky ain't worth jack to me any more as it's full of crap now. Never used to be with the old Sky boxes!

The normal Sky prices are far too high in my opinion. The only reason I have Sky at the moment is because I managed to get an amazing deal last year, which they have just recently extended for another 6 months, so I pay about £35 for Sky World including the HD pack.

I certainly wouldn't pay the £60 it would normally be, however I'm happy to keep Sky as long as they keep offering me a good deal.

how the hell did you managed to get that price? Let me guess... you joined up as a new customer.

Does that include the £10 for HD?

Last year I joined on a family and friends of Sky offer and got free installation, free HD box and the full Sky World package including HD for £25 a month. This deal expired at the beginning of December so I phoned up to cancel because I didn't fancy paying £60 and they offered to extend the deal for another 6 months (no contract, I can cancel any time) if I paid for the HD pack. So now it's £35 including the £10 for HD.

I realise this is taking the mick for people paying full price, but I'm not going to turn it down if they offer it me.

There's a few things I really don't like with Sky...

That you must have an entertainment pack - You can't have Sports/ESPN/HD without an entertainment pack.
That you have to have a fitter come round to your house - Just send the box and viewing card round in the post!
That you have to use their receiver - Just give out the viewing card and sell a CAM. Lots of people have HTPCs they'd use instead, or TVs with a built in receiver (FreeSat), etc.

that is a brilliant deal!!!

wish I could get that - imagine all the long term customers that have been with sky 10 years + and paying £70 + for what you get for £35

damn right it is taking the mickey lol
spread the love next time

I was paying £52 a month recently, dropped the sports and music channels even though i love the sports channels as it was too expensive

Stuck in a HD contract till march then it's going down from £29 to £19 a month, far more reasonable, the prices are stupid, HD should be a free addition, and sports and movies should be far cheaper also the flat rate of £18 or whatever it is for the basic package should be much closer to £10 i think

I agree I feel that they should look to scrap the £10 a month for Sky HD pack but I get the feeling they are about to increase this

I agree, I had SKY HD installed about 6 months back and I hardly ever watch HD channels, just so used to watching normal ones, think I may cancell the HD £10 pack

That you have to have a fitter come round to your house - Just send the box and viewing card round in the post! If you already have Sky+ you can get a HD box as a self install, but if you're a new customer the installer should check dish and cabling and then everything carries the guarantee.
That you have to use their receiver - Just give out the viewing card and sell a CAM. Lots of people have HTPCs they'd use instead, or TVs with a built in receiver (FreeSat), etc.
Can you imagine the support problems if people could use their own equipment? Sky regularly update software to add new features as well. Also suing your own equipment makes fraud more likely!

just joined on a family and friends of Sky offer and got free installation, free HD box and the 3 packs for £10.50 per month.

you got a great deal there.

and there's millions of long term members paying £60 a month for this...
feels so unfair anyone agree?
