Just reading the instructions, sounds scary

Actually dead easy. I did it last night.

Download the iso from alpharev and Universal USB Installer

Run the latter and choose any linux distro, point to the iso and let it build your usb stick. Reboot your laptop (or use another PC like i did) and boot into USB stick. Connect your Desire whilst its actually running normally (and in USB Debug mode), let the software do its thing.

You are now s-off'd. Download the Oxygen img file and use the Android SDK, command prompt yourself to Fastboot.exe and use the commands to push the img

bootable cd for me.

external usb dvd writer, boot off cd. hook up phone to computer, press a button - done. took about 2 mins in total.
