Women and cars

If she hardly drives, and only drives around town, why does she need a new car every 2.5 years?

A 10 year old Micra would do. Zero depreciation and no wasted money on leasing or tick.

Not everyone wants to put up with 'make do' and some are prepared to pay for it. Get over it - they make this sort of car affordable for the next generation.

The other half went round a sharp left hand bend the other day and the car juddered and the oil light came on.

Convo went

Her "Why did the car do that?"
Me "Well when did you last have it serviced?"
Her "Dunno"
*sigh*

Women, know your limits.

Unbelievably sexist, joke or otherwise.

Just because you may have an interest, don't assume someone else does.

Much easier to mock on an internet forum than to help.

What was she going to buy, a Mercedes AMG? This car sounds perfect for her.

Unless she wants to do trackdays or drive 20,000 miles per year on a motorway, which I assume she doesn't.

What do I need to get over? Makes no odds to me. Yes I'm thankful as it might be my car in ten years time. Bangornomics is the way to go.

:D

WWWWHHOOOOOOOOSSSSHHHH

Not singling you out, but this sort of stuff being accepted here is way inconsistent with stuff that is frowned upon. Because it is about cars, then it is ok to consistently be sexist.

If it gets a laugh, it must be ok.

You cannot be serious?

Ok, just so you can chill out and go to bed without a restless night sleep I said to her if she got the bits to service it I'd sort it out for her like the loyal subject I am :)

No need to get your knickers in a twist!

Yeah, I can chill because that's much better. I'm sure she'd love to read what you thought of her and decided to post on here.

Internet anonymity - fabulous thing.

Shes sitting next to me.

You lose :p

Oh and for the record, I have nothing to hide from her :)

Read mums net or whatever it's called then try and argue that women should be allowed on the internet or cars and all that.

PS - my other half has an ocuk account, has posted in motors and agrees.

Going OTT on political correctness stuff has been overdone, to the point of being ineffective. Every now and then though, something rears its head and you think 'that's just wrong'. Sorry, but I thought that this time.

It is great that your other half has an OCUK account and posts there, including motors and agrees. Quite likely to be another bloke then, but if not, still a sample size of one.

It is on the internet though, so probably doesn't matter.

That's going too far now, I feel so offended I need Morba to feel offended for me as well.

It's all light hearted banter, I really don't see anything that's been posted in this thread that wasn't tounge in cheek and clearly just a joke or a funny.

So a mild joke about a woman servicing her car is 'just wrong' but basically calling someone's girlfriend a man is a-ok?

I like your logic

I completely see what you're saying. However, when it is constant one-sided 'banter' or tongue-in-cheek, it is too much. That isn't your fault, but rather the fault of the combination of the 'tolerance' of the standards here, and the balance of male v female posters.

I guess the question is, if the majority of posters are male and deem it acceptable to post sexist comments and jokes, is it then more widely acceptable. At the moment, and for some time, it clearly is and has been.

Some of the comments on here make me feel uncomfortable from time to time, and the environment in which they're made makes it very hard for anyone to raise a comment or counter-argument. I'd hate to be a woman posting on here - most days must seem incredibly offensive and derogatory.

As I said, probably more a reflection of the accepted standards rather than those who know them. Probably a reflection of the customer base here too. That doesn't make it right though.

Well plenty do, why don't you start a thread asking them if they feel offended daily?

I'd have thought if they found it as offensive and derogatory as you seem to think they'd just leave.
