Tron 2 in 2010?

The film was epic tbh, IMAX 3D, Sure the story wasn't particularly fantastic but I didn't go for that, eye, ear and action candy aplenty.

10/10... Naysayers can bite my bit.

Loved it, thought it was epic.

Had me wanting to yell "HELL YEAH" out loud many times. Awesome visuals, great soundtrack, great sounds and plenty of throwbacks to the original.

One of the few films this decade I would consider watching again, tomorrow.

I really enjoyed it as well, probably give it an 8 out of 10.

And I think the soundtrack is the best I've ever heard!

\possible spoilers

I was thoroughly disappointed with the storyline.

I thought they were making a new film rather rehashing the old one like this.

So as I understand this one, Flynn is actually making the tron world "grid" from scratch rather than being just sucked into it.

And he makes an avatar of himself to build it for him? called CLU or whatever which goes bad.

Then he finds people appearing randomly in his world called ISOz (lol??) of which olivia wilde is the last one.

The whole thing just felt awkwardly put together tbh. I don't really see the need for stormy weather either in this digital world!

On the positive side, the 3d effects and the soundtrack were the best i've ever seen yet!

sid

They aren't, it was a follow on from the other one. The guy that was in the original goes on to build his own grid, which he then gets trapped in til is son comes and "saves" him.

The important bit that gives it a bit of sense (in my head anyway) is the bit where the father mentions that he made Clu as a likeness of him and be brought Tron in from an old system. To me that means he transfers Tron from the old Grid (the one in the original film that he didn't make) to a new area to help him.

Well I really enjoyed it too, I watched it the day it came out but haven't had a chance to comment.

The story was a little week but as a big fan of the original I loved the references. The soundtrack was brilliant and suited the film, had me really grasped especially on the grid with the lightcycles. I would certainly buy this on Blue Ray when it comes out

Tron was never about an elaborate story for me, it has always been about delivering something a little different. Not for everyone though I can appreciate that :-)

Anyway if you are thinking of seeing it and you were a fan of the original go and see it!

I think I can sum this up in 1 sentence...

Makes **** all sense and has holes in it's plot bigger than I could stand, but damn it looks pweeetty.

Brother just came in from seeing it. Said he nearly fell asleep it was so dreadful. He was looking forward to it too.

I have to say, myself, even when viewing the trailer, I was concerned it might be a case of "all fur coat and no knickers." Sounds like it.

It had fancy visuals, that's about it.

It's a sequel to a film that wasn't even that great, total Hollywood syndrome with this, they just went back, found an old film and decided to make a sequel. No imagination at all.

Edit: Didn't see the fuss about the soundtrack really and yes I like that kind of music.

Personally I give it 10/10, loved every second of it.

The 3D was a bit disappointing, it worked in some scenes but others just made me go cross eyes, I do wear glasses as well so maybe that was the reason, either way I'm not fussed, I didn't go to see it for the 3D.

Anyway, I really enjoyed it, the visuals were spectacular, the story was fine (Yeah, I don't really care that it wasn't Shakespeare, it worked, that's good enough for me), the soundtrack was phenomenal and the fight scenes were brilliant.

Would have liked to see more light-cycle action but that's just me, also I would have liked a bit more of an explanation as to why [Spoiler, you know you I'm talking about] ended up the way he did.

Personally I think that story is a very important factor in making a great film, however story is something that has been done, if you want a great story there are thousands of them and each one unique, however film is above all a visual and sensual medium, it's time to start seeing what can be done with all this technology we have, if that means we have to rehash a few stories and maybe cut back in that area, hell, all it means is that in the future the stories we all want to see will be able to take advantage of this technology and not be held back, it can only lead to good things.

Also, Olivia Wilde......good....god.

Cut back on the story how does that work? Maybe fifty percent less words. Only pay minimum wage to the writer. Get Micheal Bay to write it.

The movies are the stories. Whatever happens is because of the story. The more interesting the story the more interesting things happen.

There are plenty of more ways for stories to be told especially with the cliched stuck in rail tracks that hollywood tells stories. I think they only ever use about three of the seven, doling them out over and over just changing the names and faces sometimes.

Don't be facetious, you know exactly what I meant by that.

Personally I just don't really care, there are plenty of deep, interesting, view changing and thought inducing films out there and more made every year, every now and then all I and many others want is something that makes my mind go "wow" and makes me happy watching it, if you don't want that then so be it, there are as many films that will feed your desire for depth as there are that feed mine for that "wow" thing.

Much like any entertainment industry, not every band can define a genre like Led Zeppelin, or the change the gaming industry like the original Doom, an industry can not survive on genre defining masterpieces alone, hell it can't even survive on "great" things alone.

However I'm not getting into the same absurd argument so many people thought was necessary in the Avatar thread as it just dissolved into pointless sniping, I greatly enjoyed Tron Legacy, end of.

*SPOILER*

I assume you are talking about Clu or "the other character"?

Clu, obviously he wanted everything to be perfect and it turns out similar to iRobot where he takes things too far to get perfection.

The other character, yeah that did just seem completely random. No real explanation to it at all, all I can assume is that he pleaded for his life to Clu?

As for story, it was a good story, not all have to make you stop and think, not all have to be "The boy in the striped pyjamas". Some can just be ones that detach you from reality.

Personally I don't want to be coming out of a film every time I want a bit of entertainment cying/stunned/wanting to change my ways, which is essentially what all the "best"* stories seem to be about. I want to detach my brain and have fun!

*By best I mean some critics and film snobs that love "niche" films.

im amazed by 10/10 scores from people. Do you go to the cinema high or drunk? Never in a million years is that a perfect movie

The phrase "subjective personal opinion" seems to be a forgotten allot in this section of the forum.

Dragging my Mrs to see this with me this eve. I attempted to give her a bit of background by watching the first film last night and she was asleep within 20mins... Maybe I should get a refund on her ticket and spend the money on sweets?

Saw this last night and loved it. It had the same sort of appeal that Avatar had, but with a bit more substance and pedigree. The actors did a good job keeping it beleivable and the visuals were fantastic. I thought Daft Punk did a great job on the soundtrack too and really held the feel of the original together. I could go see it again now (if I could afford that sort of impulse spending... after buying a SB cpu/board lol). I'll be buying it on bluray when it's out.

Don't care about the debates, I enjoyed it. Loved it in fact.
