I've ensured that it'll never snow near me again...

So I've just ordered a couple of snow shovels off of an auction site. Thus guaranteeing that there will never ever be any snow anywhere near me based on the well known "Sods Law"

Anyone else reacted to the recent snowfall by trying to be a little better prepared for the next time?

We live on a hill which never gets gritted and so was pretty much impassable for 10 days.

I bought a snow shovel in 1995.

This year was the first year we've had lying snow since then!

Could I find the snow shovel? Could I ****!

Snow shovels are lighter, and have a wider area:)
Faster and easier to use if you're not used to a proper shovel which weighs considerably more, as you need less "lifts" to clear the bulk of the snow, and are not lifting a few kilos of metal at the end of the handle as well as the snow.
However ideally you should keep a normal shovel as well, as the snow shovels don't work as well on compacted snow.

This year was I think the first time since we bought it years ago that we've had to use our snow shovel, my father and a couple of the neighbours cleared the shared drive using a combination of shovel, snow shovel and stiff broom - the broom worked best for clearing up left over loose snow, whilst the normal shovel worked well on the more compacted stuff (where the cars had already been over it).

We also bought 3 bags of grit around the start to middle of November as we have to keep the path clear for my mum's scooter (we were the only house in the street to keep ur path clear I think), although we ended up only using a fraction of one bag, but they'll keep in the shed ready for when they are next needed :) (probably sit the snow shovel on them).

In the last 12 months i'd have needed these shovels twice because of this snow and th elot we had december-jan last year. Hopefully i'll be able to help keep the road clear.

Errr, no. All you've guaranteed is it will snow again while your snow shovels are in the post :p

This is actually pretty sound logic.

Dug my car out with a normal shovel this year, and it did seem to take forever! Will be ordering a snow shovel when I find the right one and the motivation to look in the first place!

You only need a few grams of salt per square metre to clear the snow, our gritters are designed to put out a maximum of 40 grams per meter and that is only meant to be used in lying snow.

A salt shaker with large holes in it is a good way of spreading it, but only works for fine salt.

After a great snow and going down a hill on sled's all day we got a couple cheap sled's from Toys-r-us, probably the last time I ever actually went there, probably 10-12 years old, never once used them since we bought them.

Buy anything to prepare for the snow and you won't get proper snow for ages :(
