I am at around the 20th `book` .Really enjoying them so making them last :)

I may have gone through 5 in an afternoon earlier in the week :p ... in fact I think I did 4 today .... I did like the bit with Shimako's father at the school festival which didn't make it into the anime and I really thought the last two volumes were good if not quite what I was expecting (no spoiler ;))

I have never understood why people would spend large amounts of money on dolls/figures:confused:.I would rather spend on the Animé.But hey whatever floats your boat

I like some of the figures and there are quite a few more I would still like ... but they are expensive and have a lower priority than anime/manga for me. Put it this way, if I won the lottery then my priority would be to clear my anime and manga "want" lists prior to buying more figures at the moment.

Started the first few eps of kimi ni todake this afternoon, only got up to ep 4 last time. You probably already know but I read somewhere on-line that series 2 will start any time soon

Loved that series and I'm really looking forward to the second season. I have been buying the manga release which is very close to the anime.

Same really, there are some nice high quality ones that i'd love to buy and have on display if i had the money to spare, but they'd set you back a pretty penny. Some of the gundam model kits are actually very nice, as are the macross figures. I think it's often a case of you get what you pay for with figures. Tis why i don't really collect many of the cheaper plastic ones.

As its coming up to New Year and I had a clear evening as most of my mates are away with girlfriends at uni etc, decided to watch DoHS with my brother this evening.

Really enjoyed it, the new copy out there definately improves the experience although you can tell its not the best copy that will come out as it suffers from a slightly weaker audio side, plus slight colour banding, but pickers can't be choosers and it still looked pretty great.

My brother hadn't seen it and I think was pretty surprised on the whole at just how well it was done, even if it does suffer slightly as a fan movie vs one for a general audience (he hasn't seen all of the series, only about half, so didnt get the Shamisen section at first for example). Apparently he thought it was one of the best, well-paced animated movies he'd seen in quiet some time.

Had a quick look at the new fullmetal alchemist episode 1 and its rather different to the original. For a start it starts with them already being FMA etc instead of the very start when they were younger like in original. Also alfonze is cast as a different voice which is similar sounding but personally i think id struggle to like alfonze as much as i did in the original due to the voice. (dub of course).

A quick question to those that have seen the new FMA brotherhood, is their an episode which shows when they were young and tried alchemy to raise their mother like in the original as i always thought that ep was one of the best from FMA. I would so like to see how they redid it in the new one.

Do these books go beyond the animé ?And do you know if the manga/story has ended yet? :)
@Demoniser That mecha does look well made,i could understand people wanting to make their own models, loved to make airfix models as a nipper. Not possible any more, I got fingers like sausages now :D

I believe that the main plot of the novel series does go beyond the current Anime by approximately 5 volumes. Of those which are translated 32 and 33 are main story and beyond the Anime and are very nice. Other parts of the novels are not animated as they are short side stories. I think that the main plot of the novels is complete now with just a few volumes of short stories being published (they are up to volume 37 I believe)

Yes there are flashbacks which expands on the background. Generally i prefer the new one espically towards to end. It's starts to diverge from the original anime at the mid-way point anf follows the manga

Aye, I haven't seen it yet, but I've heard a few people say the way the first half of the series was done in the original FMA anime was better, but that brotherhood has a stronger second half.

Different teams so I guess it's to be expected, I'll no doubt watch the Japanese this time though, so any voice acting changes wont matter to me as I watched the original in Eng Dub form (Which was actually pretty good based on what I remember...it was about 4/5 years ago, and was one of the few anime I'd seen back then).

I think he means western cartoon; I know it usually goes without saying but most anime is built/aimed quite differently to most western animated series, which is why I think most anime fans make a fairly strong attempt to class themselves as fans of anime, not cartoons, both are drawn, but anime, and what most people think of as a cartoon are quite different in many cases.

As an example, much as I'm not a major fan, I recognise Naruto follows a general plot, contains plot and character development, which is more than I can say for most 'cartoons' aimed at a similar agegroup; then there are series like Claymore, Elfen Lied...they'd be made as live action or not at all in the west, there's very little adult animation here :)

I agree with the original having a stronger start but the new series cuts out a lot of the filler crap from the first series and has a much stronger second half.

i also think the newer series had a much better ending and felt more complete.
