Is my new Samsung F3 1tb hdd running slow?

How can I check the speed of my new Samsung F3 1tb hard drive? it really feels slow at transfering files. At the moment its only about 50-70 mb/sec.

Can anyone help?

Have you tried downloading something HDTach?

I have a Samsung F3 too so I could run whatever test to compare against yours.

well that was a surprise. really thought this was slower, why do they get slower from the start and not Consistent though? :confused:

The further towards the inner part of the platter the drive has to read from the data rate slows due to the constant spin speed. Or summat like that.

Doesn't seem like there is much wrong with your drive as it is slightly better than my drive is performing. Down to the different drive controllers I would say.

I have two of these in a non-raid setup. Transferring between them occasionally goes over 100mbps, but normally it's 50-70.

The write speed you get will depend on the size of the files being written. 10Gb of large (100MB+) file will write at close to the maximum speed of the drive whereas 10Gb of small files will be written more slowly because each file write requires the drive heads to move to update the file tables and journals.
