Q6600 OCUK OC guide blue screens in Prime instantly

DO IT!! :D

Also running a Q6600 @3.2Ghz. Idle temps are @25 deg when browsing the net etc, using an Arctic Freezer 7. I went from a 36Gb Raptor to an OCZ Vertex 2E 60Gb last month and the overall system performance has been quite staggering. Best thing I've bought for the PC for ages. Highly recommended. :)

25c, that's pretty impressive if accurate. What voltage are you running? What case is that in? What other cooling? What's your room temps like?

Sounds very very low, especially given the cooler you're using. I can't get anywhere near 25c idle, even running all of my case fans at full pelt, although I am running 3.6 @ ~ 1.45v.

How have you got such low idle temps? What's your load temps like?

The other question is how cold is his room :p

Stating the obvious a bit, but if he's sat there with the window open and ambient temperatures of 10 degrees it's slightly less impressive :p

edit: should refresh before replying, same question asked in previous post :p

I'll be honest and say I have no idea how it runs so cool at idle. :p

It's sat in a Chieftec Black Dragon server size case which is gargantuan inside so loads of room for air circulation. I have two 80mm fans at the front lower part of the case and two at the rear higher up. A side fan on the window. All controlled via a Vantec Nexus MFC controller. I used AS5 paste on the Q6600 and I also lapped it. The chip has an average VID.

Temps in the spare room I have the PC in are nothing out of the ordinary although I do have the radiator turned down a few notches in comparison to other rooms.

I have no idea what my load temps under Prime etc are as I've not ran that for ages. The idle temps fluctuate around the 25/28 degree range although one of the cores is often way cooler than the other three, apparently this is common.

your settings are pretty much the same as the ones i had with my ocuk overclocked bundle which can be seen here running at 3.5ghz but i was using a tuniq tower 120 and a coolermaster stacker 832.

as others have said your temps are very high and i would put that down to the freezer 7 and the fractal fans. the fractal fans are quiet but shift practically no air even at full speed.

if i were you i would get a better cooler like a fenrir or similar (or even a coolermaster hyper 212 plus) as the freezer 7 is not meant for overclocking quads really.

Hey Chipps,

Yeah mate, the high temps were annoying and I know what you mean about the fractal fans but they're soooo quiet

I've set it at 3GHz until I get some better cooling, it's idling about 40 and prime never goes beyond 61c, it's about the best rate i've found for noise and speed. I'll probably stick it up in the future when I replace the heatsink but at the moment it's all good

Draegar, you've got me intruiged! Please run prime95 on it for 20 mins and show us your load temps :)

Quick test, just over 20 mins. The fatal error thing in Worker #2 happened just before I took the screenshot. Don't ask me what it is as I've no idea what it means!!??. :p

It means your core 1 failed as you can see in the coretemp with 0% load. You need to up the core voltage:).

I'm not sure if there's any point to be honest. I've never had a BSOD in everyday use with the chip at those settings either during gaming or using the PC for everything else. Couldn't really care less about Prime results as I only ran it as the OP asked me to do so out of curiosity. I'm happy with the low temps so apart from it exhibiting this error/failure in Prime95 is there really any need for me to up the voltage until Prime runs stable?. If so, how much should the voltage be upped do you reckon?.
