GTA 4 worth it?

I loved GTAIV and the MP on console, it could have been slightly smoother but generally fps was stable enough.

On PC different story, I mean it was still good an all including the MP but it was a shame there were no servers, anti aliasing and general **** poor performance :p

Having got GTA4 for £4.99 in last years Steam sale I wasn't too worried if I didn't enjoy it but tbh I found it pretty good and kept me interested long enough to warrant the purchase.

The only annoyance I have is that my little M11x can't run it very well. Yes I know it only has a Core 2 Duo clocked at 1.73Ghz but still it can play Crysis.... :p

Oh well my i7 based gaming PC chews through it no problem.

This thread is actually making me want to install it again and get it running on the M11x. I have spent hours tweaking BFBC2 and got that working so this should be a doddle.... (yeah right).

I played it but got stuck I think before even the second 'chapter' (what ever a chapter is).

I ran out of money and guns and couldn't do the missions. Got bored. I guess I must just be crap. I found the shooting and general control to be really quite difficult, and the control scheme is a bit messed up with no way to adjust it. (360)

I used to just fire it up drive about for a bit, get the cops chasing me and then either get caught or out run them. Pretty boring after a while.

Do you own the episodes? The GTAIV complete is on sale now for £6.25, a bit more than you paid for GTA but worth it if you don't have them. Assuming you can bear to play it any more :p

Does anyone have a link to a 100% walkthrough for the game? The ones I've found have "only available if you did not kill so and so" on some of the sub-missions.

Are you looking for a walkthrough for the missions? Usually I just google the mission name + walkthrough, and find it like that.

Nah, the old GTAs had a 100% walkthrough which gave you 100% sprint etc which was usefull in the game. Maybe the game is structured differnetly. Doing the ambulance, fire and police sub-missions meant gaining a lot of bonus skills.

I managed to pick up the GTA IV Complete Bundle on Steam for £6.25 and imo that has to be one of Steam's best deals, evening besting their previous GTA 4 deal of £5.

GTA 4 & Episodes from Liberty City has got to be some of the best sandbox games ever IMO. And Bully lol.

Anyone bought it recently from one of the game download websites like direct 2 drive, etc...?

If so, was the version 1.0, or was it fully patched up after install ?

Have an urge to play again but the latest version - 1.0.7.0 - has apparently hurt performance with the new shadow algo, and rolling back a few versions to 1.0.4.0 improves fps ( and works better with the enb dll's ) at the expense of poorer shadows.

Can't do this with the Steam version I already have, so it'll need to be another download or discs.

I enjoyed GTA4 but didn't finish it. Not sure why, maybe ran out of time. BOGT was awesome, superbly written and had be gripped. It is what GTA4 should have been, with added queens :p Haven't played more than half an hour of the Lost and the Damned...

The game needs a quad, a decent card and some tweaking

It needs a bit more than that, according to R* :

" We tested similar settings on a fast core I7 with 2 GTX 480's in SLI and seeing a pretty consistant 30fps. The hardware to run this game at FULL MAX settings at 60 fps does not yet exist but the game is coded such that when it does it will take full advantage. "

Was just reading a thread on the GTA forum & came across that. Made me laugh.

You don't get any awesome bonuses like that.

Best bet if you want 100% is to nail all the story missions and ignore ALL random characters. Then come back and do the police/most wanted/friends to 90%/jumps/races/assassinations - easier with good weapons/cars.

Finally get a map of all 200 pigeons and work through it in numbered order only. Mark each one as you kill it.

I bought it from D2D and I can tell you it is not patched. Your best bet is to download G4WL from MS first. Make sure G4WL is updated fully.

Then install GTA4. Then exit GTA4, at which point G4WL should attempt to patch it.
