could anyone take a few mins to do a survey for me please?

Done didly done.

One point. Make it a coffee shop or a club. Dont try to make both.

Live music and TV screens does not equal my kind of coffee shop. Mind, a lot depends on location.

Most coffe shops shut early, i quite likd the idea of a coffe shop open late with live bands, something different to do. But how many other people would like that who knows,. It would have to be a normall coffee shop during the day though.

Most coffee shops are a little poncy for me. For it to be an success it'll need to have an edge to it which makes people want to go to his place instead of Costa or Starbucks.

Coffee shop, selling, erm coffee ?;);)

Anyhow filled it in, but on seeing the OP I had a different coffee shop in mind.

Done.

Year ago me and my partner used to have coffee often, our fav major chain is costa coz i love their cappuccinos, they are pricier tho.

Nero is less rushed at serving tho, which I guess is bad for takeout as longer cues but seems more homey.

Starbucks is naff and their sorry excuse for a cheese panini almost choked me to death...seriously...

No live music or telly tho,ppl want to talk and relax.

Plenty of seating is def a plus as well as opening times past usual shop hrs,eg.till 8pm if possible. We'd often go shopping and then grab a brew.

Phew. Feel like I just wrote a novel! But just my 2 cents

As do I. I'm quite interested by it. My dad explained to me once that they had that type of thing in the 50s and 60s. Not coffee shops exactly, just diners, such as you might often see in American TV. Not everything revolved around alcohol then, and it's only relatively recently that we got quite so wrapped around binge drinking.

Perhaps there will be a movement away from binge drinking towards this type of thing.

I know I'd rather go see a band in a nice coffee shop type environment than a dingy dark stinking pub.

Again over in America they might have an idea with liquor licenses. They have far far fewer pubs than we do over here, but lots of places sell booze. Not everywhere has a liquor license, and they see a distinction between soft drinks and beer and then between beer and liquor. Perhaps the government should consider changing the laws on licensing and perhaps we can have coffee shops during the daytime that sell perhaps some bottled beer at night, cider for homosexuals and girls (trolling there), and that'll fill the gap that is appearing as our pub culture declines?

Edit : In fact I think I'll take this to speakers corner.

Tv in the backround I feel could work, something like E4 on in the background with relatively quiet volume so you can speak if you want or sit quietly and watch. I'd only ever go to a coffee shop if I was waiting for someone and having something to watch whilst I'm there would be nice :)

Went to do it but couldn't answer the last question about whether I wanted quality of coffee, price, atmosphere, etc... It's all of those. I'll choose a coffee based partly on price but other things too. For example I find some Starbucks to be great but others are shabby and I will walk away. I love the Costa cups (best cups around as they are corrugated and so don't need an annoying paper ring, but they are overpriced.

It's a balance between...

Location (I wouldn't go far out of my way - coffee os a convenience product)
Value - rip me off and I won't be back
Quality of coffee - I won't buy it a second time if I don't like it
Atmosphere - this depends on location; if I want to sit inside then it's important, but if I'm grabbing a coffee at a station then I wouldn't care as much

thanks for all the feedback :) he is checking this topic and taking it all into account, i agree with a lot of you about the live band, i would like to sit and be able to chat when i drink coffee instead of having to shout over the music, not only that but i guess it would make people spend a few hours in the shop and only buy a few cups of coffee while they are there so not that good for business either

Agreed. I quite like the idea of local bands in coffee shops in the evening.
