Does OCUK have an offical youtube channel?

That's a great idea, product video reviews are everywhere, but this would be OcUK specific, with some close up, shallow DoF snippets of the hardware, make it look awesome.

That's what I'm thinking.

Even if they can't find anyone to narrate the video, it will give them a chance to show off the internals of the custom builds (which judging by comments of the staff I see posting, they are quite proud of) and give you a good idea how some of the systems look "in the flesh".

It's an idea :)

I always look at lots of reviews before I buy anything, I reckon a lot do. OcUK could simply embed the youtube clips on their product page like they do with some 3rd party ones already.

I prefer the user review as it is, I don't need to see a biased video of the product.

was going to same something similar. user reviews are at least a little less biased (bad ones don't appear afaik). also how long would the video review be relevant? when they make a video review of product x being the best say i chose to buy it because of that video review. then 6 months later someone else sees same video and buys it thinking it's so great but infact it's now a 6 month old product that doesn't compare so well.

I think its a really good idea, if it can be done correctly.

I think if you had links to reviews from the product pages it might encourage a few extra people to take the plunge.

If not it will at least boost OCUK's presence

One thing that I am sick to the back teeth of is Depth of Field. It's like the new black, seriously. However some adverts go as far as calling it "blur the background" presumably because they think their customers are stupid. DoF done well = great. Most of the time it isn't.

Back on topic. What is the likely return on this for OCUK? Video editing is a time intensive task (I know I do it as a side line) and given the signal to noise ratio of YouTube it may take some time to give a return.

Not worth it if you ask me.

That can be cured by common sense [and doing research]. Or a date can be shown clearly on the video. :p

What about OCUK's UK based competitor who does the same and has a hot girl basically showing the product features?

I think it would go down rather well :P

YES! and no, we don't want a IGN type of video with users commenting about her body lol. Just keep the reviews non-biased which will be hard but try to emphasise that there is a community here to help solve this particular problem and\or increase it performance.

Creating a partnership with another organisation is risky, its hard to maintain a balanced influence on both sides. Make sure one does not praise their own organisation than the other.

Yeh but OC3D don't actually sell any products do they? I know they have a partnership with someone I shouldn't mention but isn't that it?

oooo touchy this morning?:D

Great idea, could be a big hit if done correctly.
When learning how to build a computer for the first time i came across a guy who
made loads of pc building tutorials ,hardware/software reviews and loads of other computer related videos , he has had over 24 million views!
Just goes to show how successful it can be to have a computer related channel on you tube.

Nothing wrong with having an official channel that also it picky about what it 'favourites' - for OcUK-followers' viewing pleasure.

This way, not only could there be OcUK-created content, but also OcUK-recommended.

+1

I would one day see a watermark on products like customPC.

I think having the 'option' of a video review is nice. Also makes a better relationship with company->buyer. Gives it a less 'corporate' face.
