*****Ultimate Football Manager 11*****

I'm enjoying FM11 but starting to get a bit frustrated with it. I'm experiencing quite a few more bugs than in previous versions (invisible players in match, tactic changes being ignored amongst other smaller issues), and as I've said whilst playing previous versions, I really hope they sort the simple problems for the FM12 before adding new features!

Anyway, I need some help/advice please. I'm playing as Southampton and I've just reached the end of the second season. Won League 1 in the first and into the Championship where I was predicted a 20th place finish. Ended up 10th but won only 1 game in my last 9 which was painful and cost me a place in the playoffs :(. It may be a coincidence but ever since the last update I've been suffering from the same problem in matches, and that is my defenders not going in for the tackle! It's not just once or twice but an ongoing problem and is costing me at least a goal a game. They constantly usher the opposition down the wing or just back off until they're on the edge of the area. On several occasions my centre backs have quite literately stood still and watched as the opposing forward has run towards and past them . How do I get them to make a tackle ? I've tried variations of tackling set to hard, more closing down, and man marking the opposition but it just doesn't change. My defenders just won't tackle :(.

Is anyone else experiencing this (I guess those with world class defenders won't), and any idea on how to sort it (without buying world class defenders)?

I spent half a season as boss of Leicester City after Sven got fired, was very impressed with Andy King in central midfield, missed out on the playoffs by a point after dragging the team from second bottom so a good season but I resigned after that.

Loving the Real Time Editor, been messing about with some of the Scottish clubs.

thx for the suggestions for wigan signings, unfortunately i saw them too late :(

heres who did sign

in:

tomas repka from sparta prague for 250k - hes old but only planning on keeping him for the 1 season to help against stronger teams.

I've just been given an extra £32,000,000 to spend so I was looking at Neymar, is he any good? He has some decent stats but would he come to Arsenal?

Neymar becomes awesome, I have him at Ipswich. Only problem is he's a bit lightweight so you'd want to pair him with a player (or players) that a strong and can win the ball (so strength and jumping). As Arsenal I'd imagine you should be looking for a couple of players that might not be amazingly technically but have some physicality about them.

I have Neymar too on my Saints game, has been awesome in the PL, 44 goals in 95 appearances, with 31 assists too.

Paulo Henrique is just sensational, rated better than just about anyone on my game. Comes in at 4 star, whereas even Torres/Ronaldo come in at 3.5 star and Messi is the only other 4 star I have found.

Pastore is good too but I would say Henrique is a better buy.

Lukaku is fantastic as well, 67 goals and 23 assists in 108 PL appearances in the PL, but he may have just been replaced in 2015 by Babacar...

In my game, Babacar and Sanogo have just been bought by Arsenal who have got a new tycoon investor. About £35m each!

*Each* ended up scoring ~35 goals in 35 games

Babacar and Sanogo are stupidly good, its ridiculous. Just get a front free of Lukaku, Babacar and Sanogo and you have an almost game breaking front three :p

One player I do reccommend is Leigh Griffiths, dont know if he has already been mentioned but is quality in the Championship for only 400k. Not sure if he will hold his own in the premiership though :(

What season are you in with Ipswich?

I'm half way through the first season and sit 10 points clear in the Championship, but how are they at attracting players in there first season in the EPL?

Hoping to buy the likes of Witsel, Hlousek, Kadlec etc with a cheeky bid for Babacar and Sanogo...

Btw Ive found an interesting transfer glitch for people who keep getting massively overquoted for young players.

Instead of signing them, loan them with a massive option to buy (like £80m). Then once you have loaned them, put in a reasonable offer and they are far more likely to accept.

Absolutely terrible at attracting anything like a big name star. They've made this aspect of the game slightly harder than in previous years. Free transfers and loans all the way. Some of the transfer listed players might come, but they usually want ridiculous wages. Jo is a good shout for a cheaper striker though.

You can sometimes get some really decent young players on loan, build in a future buy clause - hopefully if they have a good season, you'll be one of their favoured clubs and you'll also get them for a decent price. This is worth doing even if they're not absolutely going to be first choice because for a lot of newly promoted teams squad depth is going to be a massive issue. You won't be able to afford in the transfer market or in wages having a massive squad so using loans effectively is a really good way of padding out the team.

Started a season as Arsenal as I've never played a game with them. Sorted my future strike force out... :)

Just checked out Sanogo, hadn't heard of him before, and my god what physical stats!!!

17/10/18/18/15/17/16/20!

Finishing and Composure is 18 too, along with 17 Heading!

Other stats are nothing special though, but am scouting him anyway.

awsome game ive just had against man city.

only the league cup 2nd round but a 4-4 draw with me winning 5-4 on penalties.

city shot off to a 2-0 lead, i then pull it back to 2-2.

last minute of the game i score making it 3-2. seconds later my keeper picks up the ball then just seems to drop it on the floor and tevez taps it in :/

last minute of extra time i take the lead again only for city to equalise seconds later.

eventually win 5-4 penalties, wigan with a rare win over city :p

He turns out to be a very good player in my game. A goal machine.

Well it took 6 seasons but CHECK IT OUT!!! :D

Should have won if we hadnt conceded a needless few goals against Leicester and Bristol Rovers....

Here's Sanogo in 2016 too (been trying to get him for years but Burton isnt cool enough for him)

Would anyone be interested in a English 2020 save? Large database just the English leagues. I've only got my laptop with me at home so I can leave it on over might just holidaying until then to see what happens and save it at the end of the 2019/2010 season. I'll try adding more leagues if my laptop doesn't take too long doing it after that if people are interested?

I really want to see what current Wonder Kids etc become like. I've just downloaded the Small England, Spain, Italy database from here but as it says it's only the top leagues.
