Mk1 toyota Yaris'...thoughts and opinions?

We did tell you that £3.6k was ridiculous.

Now all you need to do is find a couple of people who you might want to give access to your car to. Friends or relatives perhaps.

So that's £2200 then? £1400 less in the space of 20 minutes or so.

Just think, one minute we are nasty thread derailers the next gallant forum members are saving people thousands of quid.

There is logic behind even the most petty of arguments.

Just over £2k is a pretty decent quote for that car with his age and postcode.

Yup, thanks for saving me money. :)

I am pretty shocked at how much difference it can make. Will ring my aunties and see how it goes with them.

They never need actually drive the car either, it just needs to be believable that they perhaps would at some point afaik

It won't make any difference to their own policies so unless they hate you, I can't see them saying no! :p

Indeed, older people who do not fully understand this will generally be extremely apprehensive about it, and will often not be told otherwise.

I'd just add them and not tell them.

I had a 1.0 yaris as my 1st car (cheap insurance, cheap car), hated it because it wasnt fun, didnt enjoy driving at all for my first year so i got rid. If its just a simple a>b with no illusion of comfort, speed or style then it'll do just fine but dont get one if you want to have fun driving.

I use to own a Mk1 Ph1 Tsport. I thought it was awesome.
Small, fast and reliable. I use to get 41mpg with a mixture of fast and slow driving. It never missed a beat and by far one of the most reliable cars Ive ever known.
It was that good Im thinking of getting another at some point and/or getting my girlfriend one.

The 1.0l modles are ok for a 1st car and wont go wrong. Only problem is the way it looks but I guess if you got the 1.3SR bodykit on it it would look good.

I also live in Bradford and the insurance for my Yaris was pretty cheap and wasnt as expensive as I thought.

Most people on here hate the Yaris even though theyve probably never been in one or even drove one. Yes its not a super car, yes its not a hot hatch. What it is, is cheap enjoyable fun and pretty quick in its own rights.
People forget that at the time the 1.0l engine had the most bhp as standard than any other 1.0l brought out at that time.

Enjoy your time with the Yaris and if you have any problems Im happy to help cause I pretty much know the car inside out. Also get yourself on the owners club (yarisclub not the Toyota one, they are a bunch of nice guys and will be willing to help you).

My sister has the 1.0L and is averaging around 45mpg last time i checked, and her job is a social worker, so travels between houses etc. when i have been in it it was doing nearly 70mpg at 60mph. all this is off the trip computer though, and i havent checked how accurate that is. Its her first car too, she hasnt had it long, but hasnt had any problems with it yet. her is the colour collection chili or what ever colour they call it. I think its a great little car.

Well, I've been to view 3 Yaris over the past couple of days and there seems to be a running theme amongst them that the paintwork is **** and they suffer from horrible stonechips on the front bumper and bonnet.

I've found one that is nigh on perfect apart from the fact that a stonechip on the bonnet with a diameter of ~5mm has rust on it, something that all 3 of the ones that I've been to view had. I can tell from the service history and how well looked after the interior is that it has been cared for properly and I know that this isn't a usual case of a car rusting to pieces all over but it still worries me.

Would something such as that put you off a purchase?

The paint is really crap, I got to sort the rear bumper out on mine because somehow it's been chipped and gone through to the plastic (great).

Not got any major stone chips on mine, but I'm pretty sure Toyota has a 12 year rust warranty on these. I will have to double check but I'm sure I read it somewhere.

No it wouldn't, because if you are using the car from A to B and don't care about stone chips, which nearly every car has then it's minor. Think about the idiots in the supermarket which will bang there doors against yours, or reverse in to you. It's minor.

The paintwork on the Yaris is bad and it does suffer from stone chips.
There shouldnt be any rust really on the body work if its a 2001 onwards I would give any it a miss unless the rust is tiny and your going to get it sorted.

I was lucky when I bought my Yaris it only had about 2 stone chips and a tiny scratch.

I would look at a couple more before going for the one youve found cause you might of missed one.
