Hello all,

I think it’s time for me to take the plunge in getting myself an SSD,

It will be used for Windows 7 + Usual apps(Office,Visual Studio,Anti Virus, etc) + A few games that would help loading times that I play a lot.

Though I’m not very sure what one to go for, It seems the Crucial RealSSD C300 and the OCZ Vertex 2E 60GB gets suggested a lot, though i heard the OCZ Vertex 2E is EOL?

Do you think 60 GB would be enough for the usage I have said above and what SSD would you recommend?

Onto my second question, I currently have WD Caviar Black 500gb as a backup hdd but it's pretty much full so I'll be getting another secondary drive for other applications to install onto and more backup space again I’m not sure which drive to get 500gb-1TB I think will be fine.

I've been looking at the following drives: Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB(HD105SI) , Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB(HD103SJ) though not sure what's the difference between the two.

If you have any other recommendations would be great!

Thanks,

The second Samsung (HD103SJ) is faster - 7200rpm rather than 5200rpm.
It's also a great drive at a great price, have one myself :D

I have seen the OCZ Vertex 2E getting suggested a lot not sure about it being end of line though, I did read somewere that there will be a new wave of SSDs comming out soon (how soon though I don't know)

The HD103SJ is a faster drive at 7200RPM compared to the 5200RPM of the HD105SI

I have a the ocz drive in question and i love it its awsum i went from a sammy f3 to this and wow its quick. As long as you set it up right it will fly threw everything. 60 gb is big enuff for me as its just a boot drive.

Good lord :o.

I'm sorry, I would never normally do this but:

It's really not that hard...

Well, you should not have bothered doing it this time. Bloody pointless post on your behalf. Only reason for your post was to make you look clever. It didn't, just made you look like a tool.

Lets get back on topic as I'm thinking of getting an SSD so interested in peoples opinion.

I have both a crucial C300 and a vertex 1. I personally think I prefer the vertex 1 over the crucial, or it migh tjust be my laptops sata controller sucks, or vista business 32 just doesnt like it as much as win 7 pro 64. But both are good, just remember the C300 on a sata 2 controller isnt any faster than a vertex, only if you put it on a sata 3 controller are its read speeds higher.

60gb is fine for a boot drive and all normal apps, but wont be big enough for photoshop/CAD etc.

The new 25nm versions are just different sizes, same trasnfer speeds and IOPS so should perform the same. the Bigfoot is just a drive in a 3.5" format which is meant to make it cheaper but whenever I have looked its the same price.

They are worth the money now that its ~£1.50 per GB. I remember paying more than that for normal HDD's so I consider it fine now, and they are constantly getting cheaper as more and more people buy them so they become 'mainstream'.
