i use my PS3, media server + games console + blu ray player = win
As above. Plays pretty much anything the PC can play. You need a decent network speed and a hefty processor to handle HD stuff though.
Shuttle SB75G2. Its an old P4 box with 2Gb RAM, 1.5TB of disk space and a old AGP card which needs to be replaced for more HD friendly card.
This is running XBMC Dharma and works great. Waiting for MCE remote and receiver to turn up and I can finally stop getting up to change movie or TV episode!

This plus Pearl Theme for media browser and WMP-HC for the odd erroneous file.

xmbc with aeon on a dedi networked htpc using the android xbmc app to control it...even the mrs can work it!

ASRock ion 330HT with 64gb SSD and 320GB Laptop SATA running windows 7 and mymovies, but the whole lot is connected to my domain controller (windows server 2003) with a raft of 1tb hdd's in it.
custom HTPC with XBMC, sickbeard, and PS3MS (for streaming media through the PS3 when I'm too lazy to switch the TV input to XBMC 
Fingers crossed, now that the PS3 master key has been found, XBMC (or something similar) will be ported over to PS3!

If it counts, I use my xbox 360 and stream my music and videos via my Netgear NAS , does the trick so far, but time I upgrade my hard drives as its coming to the end of its capacity

Think you may find it's cheaper to opt for a new cheap GFX card that outputs to HDMI (even DVI) rather than a dedicated vga to HDMI convertor.need to sort out WMC still, and get a vga to hdmi adapter (tv doesn't have vga

You're actually wrong on both counts. There is a peripheral to enable DVB-T on PS3, and the console has a built in browser.
Plus, with the very recent METLDR and CFW furore, it won't be long at all until the console has full blown hardware accelerated Linux along with XBMC and other homebrew applications available. Once this happens, I'll get rid of my HTPC and simply use the PS3 as my main media center.
