For my 24 yo almost daughter in-law.

Was thinking Fiat Panda, any other suggestions.

Andi.

PS I don't suppose anyone here is selling a good 1st car? Cheap.

budget?
what does she want? (this matters more than any other question tbh, so probably a 206cc!)

How cheap? sub 1K? 5k?

Fiesta, lupo, polo... lots to go at. Depends if she'll have anything or something that she likes the look of.

Still old cars and mileage counts for squat really, besides I'd rather have a car that's been used and not sitting around + £1500 for a 12 year old Polo is a bum deal. They are also pathetically slow, bordering on dangerous.

and your suggestion is....

A 2002 Ford Fiesta 1.25 with a decent trim level - 2002 because it's the last of the MK5s and I'm not a big fan of the MK6 at this price point. You will not find anything cheaper to run, good performance for the class of vehicle and reliable. £1500 will get you a good one, something akin to - http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2131811.htm Whilst I think interior quality isn't a big deal for a first car, the 6n Polo (ones you linked) have an utterly disgusting dashboard nor do I think they present particularly good value for money.

That's my suggestion, I'm happy to be shot down in flames but my point was that getting excited about low mileage old cars and paying £1500 for a 6n Polo.

Nope, I think that's a good suggestion :) The reason i picked the Polo is that she would prefer it to be a German car, but never mind :)

Considering cheap cars, its vital to find the one with the best safety record. By no means these cars are actually safe (and having being a passenger 3 times on a Newcastle to London return in an '89 Nissan Micra cardboard box), but the German built polo might be a bit safer, bar the right leg! At 30mph frontal impact causes the roof to pretty much begin to cave in on the fiesta rather than the polo's staying nice and sturdy.

I 2nd Yaris T Sport.

I would look into getting one and dont be worried about the high mileage as long as they have been serviced they will be fine. Mate of mine had one at 140k till he crashed it and it was running like clockwork.
