Hi there,

my lovely wife has done something stupid and i've just found out about it, She wanter to buy something off a auction site but did not want to wait for the ending day, so she email the person and ask if they could end it early and other them a price!, they did but week and half later no item! no emails nothing about it!..

Where does she stand with paypal? if she can get her money back from them or not as the money was sent as goods?. Do you think she can get her money back or not?.

I think it divorce time now!...

you bought outside of an auction

money's gone you can hope the item turns up but thats about it, expect no support from ebay/paypal

Were the funds paid through Paypal funded via a credit card in a single transaction?

If so, you might be able to claim a charge back through your cc company - phone them and ask thier advice.

If it's a debit card, then you'll have to raise the issue directly with PayPal - although it problably wont go anywhere.

If you paid on a credit card you are covered but i not sure how to get it back
If you paid through PayPal (NOT GIFT) simply dispute the transaction and the money is yours
If you paid with PayPal gift, CONGRATULATIONS you are the 1 billionth person PayPal has raped!

It's not paypal doing the raping, it's self-inflicted - if you're dumb enough to gift money without a basis for trust, you don't deserve to get it back.

Thanks for your replys, she paid with her debit visa through paypal. It cost £120..

I believe most Visa Debit cards will offer the same protection as a Visa credit via the bank. Give it a reasonable timeframe (normally 14 - 28 days), and if no goods or return emails then contact the bank to initiate a chargeback.

Mind you, Paypal might just try to bill your account for the chargeback itself, leaving it in debit which is obviously a lose-lose situation.

Dont forget with the snow and the bank holidays, there may just be a delay in the post.

Edit - If it was outside of ebay and you were to do a chargeback, surely paypal cant touch you as there was no "contract" so to speak?

I know it's been bank holiday and lots of snow but why ain't he/she contacted my wife saying that they have sent it!, she has sent about 10 emails now, this all started on the 27/12/10.

You are still covered by paypal so don't worry. Do a charge back and take it from there. If for some reason it does not work report it to the police as fraud.

Ive done deals via paypal on classified forums and i always pay by PayPal (NOT GIFT) and they do recover the money if an item is not recieved, unless the seller can confirm postage using somthing like royal mails recorded delivery.

Is the seller responding to your emails?
As mentioned above remember that the post is just getting back to normal
