Mmm just finished the Gundam 00 movie.

I don't know what to make of it (and the 00 incarnation as a whole), i wasn't blown away, but it wasn't rubbish either.

The plot - It was very haphazard, and seemed to be all over the place at times. I don't know why new things were introduced for the movie, yes they had a purpose, ultimately, but it just felt like a get out quick solution.

Characters - I still don't care much for the characters tbh. They didn't really have any stand out features, and i didn't emphasize with them a single bit. The core cast of characters in Gundam Seed are much more compelling to watch if you want good characters who have reasons for their actions that you can relate to.

Visuals - Nice visuals, but nothing really wow'd me, the choreography of the fights doesn't even come close to those found in Macross Frontier (The only recent series you can compare it with imo).

i'd say overall i'd give it 6-7/10 but no more than that, with most of the plus points being the visuals.

It's not for everyone, but it is a lot of fun, there are 24 eps plus the current OVAs out right now :)
The dub is whole worlds of awesome compared to most dubs as well. Revy is just cruder, and more...Revy...than in Japanese...and the engrish scene...oh dear lol

Oh and my canvas arrived today :D
Not had a chance to frame it yet, but here you go. DVD case to give you a sense of scale:

Pretty nice little haul really with a good few in there which I have seen before from other sources and can now watch again properly and several I've wanted to watch for a while :D

@Alexrose1uk, nice canvas :)

@VeNT, pulled one down .... sometimes even free is too expensive *shudder*

Aye, belated happy birthday!

Ps. I think the world god only knows is quite possibly the most disappointing show I've seen. The initial premise sounded interesting and mildly amusing but the main character is pretty unlikeable and the whole thing felt tedious and by the numbers. I hate not finishing something I started but this show persuade me to jump to the last episode, just to find a completely awful episode and advertisement for a second season! How it got a second season I really do not know!

Belated birthday wishes mate.Hope you had a good one :D
The `Free` mangas are rubbish then?

Cheers.

the free manga .... well I pulled down a couple and the ones I looked at appear to be less manga and more badly drawn Mills and Boon books in comic form ... really, really poor ...

Cheers, The World God Only Knows is somewhere in my back log ... I watched the first 2 or 3 episodes when it started airing but eventually dropped behind as, like you say, whilst it may have been an interesting idea it just didn't really click and the characters were annoying ...

A slightly belated happy birthday memyselfandi :)

Alex, where did you say you lived again...;) :p - although I'm running out of wall space given the posters/lithographs that I've got up already and the Clannad lithograph 2 and Tylor ones that have shipped/are shipping now.

I've not managed to watch much anime over the last week or so thanks to a sleep pattern that isn't so much of a pattern as an inkblot :p (and the amount I'm able to watch is likely to be going down for a few weeks as I've got models to finish before mid Feb)
Although I have managed to watch a couple of discs of Suzuka which I'm really enjoying :)

Regarding Suzuka ... I find the anime ok but I found the manga to be quite a bit better (from what I remember) ... both in content and art style.

Wow, and I thought I liked anime. You guys put me to shame.
That canvas is fantastic, where did you get it?
I remember eating in a sushi bar in the US called Mikimoto's that had InuYasha canvases decorating the walls. But no-one there knew where they came from though :(
Have found some on offer on the net but they were never as good as the ones on the walls at Mikimoto's
This is the best photo I could find of one of them (rubbish I know 'cos of the glare from a light, but you get the idea)

Off an eBay seller :)
I know it's almost a little contradictory, but beyond Spice and Wolf, I'm a lot more restrained in outward signs of my appreciation of this stuff.
As a relative newcomer who got introduced by my brother and one of my mates, I'm still painfully aware of the somewhat grim social view a lot of people take to the stuff, especially as when you mention it they instantly think of stuff like Yu-gi-oh and Pokemon, which are about as far and away from some of the more adult material out there as can be. I was always interested in fantasy/sci-fi though and a lot of anime do touch on these areas so it was a dangerous road for me to investigate lol

I like to try and convince myself you can pass off a canvas as 'art' though haha

Hahah perhaps I should start hiding my stuff :D :p

The canvas isn't perfect; it's a bit oversaturated, so where the original source picture was slightly brighter and there were different browns in the clothing as detail, the canvas looks more black over the clothing as an example. It still looks good though and the actual canvas is decent quality, rather than the paperthin stuff I've seen used elsewhere, it doesnt feel like its been printed on crate paper lol.

I know my photo came out a bit dark, but heres the original image so you can get an idea of what I mean as a comparison. The canvas does look very smooth at least though, not like some of the poor, blocky ones I've seen.

It cost less than £30 inc shipping (about 17 quid for the canvas, 12 for the postage IIRC) from Oz, so its not like it was massively expensive like some collectable artwork or I'm going to complain about little things like that lol

The guy is still selling them if you wanted one, seems he runs a canvas/memorabilia shop on there (covering everything from anime, to abstract art, to film stars), and if you can provide high quality images he thinks will come out on canvas, he also seems to do solicitations, based off when I emailed him before purchasing asking if he had any other Spice and Wolf canvas :)

Completely agree.

For me one of the key points about Gundam Seed were the relationships between characters. In the 00 series Setsuna + Marina shows some progress but then it's as if the writers decide to drop it completely, then in the movie we see Setsuna + Feldt but once again, it's dropped.

Plus, it's probably just me, but the time-skip after the credits just left me feeling empty. I really tire of the whole 'hero takes the alone path' idea.

Here's waiting for the next Break Blade movie.

Bah some of it is art. If anyone asks me i just say i enjoy the art style/stories they provide, which is true. I just don't act like some hyperactive fanboy/girl you often find at conventions. Some of the stuff may appear childish and cute, but they're made by grown men and women afterall.

In fact, this clip from Robot Chicken illustrates my point perfectly in being overzealous in liking something :p.

I have these two fellas hanging up (old photos)

iirc i purposely chose the ones that looked more like paintings than advertising posters when i chose them. You'll never see me stick something up like this for instance, which looks a bit cheesy and gimicky imo.

(Never watched Bleach, but it's just to illustrate the difference in visuals/style).

If I could have any anime art up it would be the advertising posters for the A__a releases, (not the lithographs TRSI are doing ... the huge promotional posters). You used to be able to get them from Yahoo JP's auctions (via a third party service) but they worked out very expensive.

edit: my Googlefu is weak this evening ... but the ones I was looking at were mostly blue in colour and were more the large posters advertising the Japanese DVD releases than the sort of thing that Bleach picture is.

Actually would be interesting to know what DPI the canvas is done at ...

Not entirely sure I'm afraid, but it doesnt look noticeably blocky which is the main thing. Part of how it looks will likely depend on the source image too.

Im considering ordering another one now I've seen it to send to the guy who sent me the books/figure. I'm pretty sure he'd like it.

Edit: haha loving that Robot Chicken clip. Yeah pretty much covers the stereotype :D

Got any links to the exact images you mean.

I think mentioned earlier i'd love to have some of the large artwork from there up on the wall.

In fact talking of promotional posters that are decent i was eyeing up these a while ago.

Probably the closest i'd get to having some nice Shinkai background art to display.

I've seen those ones too ... but I've been rather put off by some of the bad reviews of the quality of merchandise from that seller.

Can't give any linkes to what I would like at the moment (I'm at work so can't access most of the image sites or image hosting sites).

I have considered using somewhere like Zazzle to create my own canvas of exactly what I want (I've been happy with some things I've bought from them before (non-anime) and have sold through them) if I could get hold of high def files of the sort of images I want.
