Tell me about f10 and e60 520

I can go and look at the condition of the bottom one one if you want as the dealer is literally down the road.

The other one is at another branch 30 miles away.

So if it hasn't got bluetooth or sat nav, what's on the iDrive?
A left option for the heating and a down one for the radio?

Seems a bit pointless

It has all the entertainment, car settings, service information and the heating section.

Would you mind awfully old bean?

Can do, trouble of course is that it's dark when I drive past on the way home! It's floodlit mind, so I'll try and find it tommorrow for you.

It would definitely be interesting to find out. The only worry is why they haven;t put photos up yet unless they are being lazy. Would you agree its better to get an AUC one as the warranty is pretty comprehensive.

Yes, provided the mileage is low then the warranty is excellent.

That said, its a lot of money to be spending on an E60. I'm not saying thats a bad deal, just that.. its a lot of money to spend on an E60.

Would you buy a cheap runabout and wait for F10s to come down in price?

No, I'd buy an E92 and wait for the F10's to come down in price :D

Like a 335?:p

I'm stuck in a bit of a no win situation at the moment though because I need to get rid of the e60, if I wait, I won't get as much part ex :(

What to do :(

no nav, which is weird as he chose the logic7 sound package!

Eh? Maybe the ads have changed now, but they both are listed as having "Media Package" (which on the E60 was Professional Navigation, BMW Assist, Voice Control, Bluetooth, 6 CD changer).

They all come with nav, surely, but just the 4:3?
They all come with the 4:3 screen (for the functions Fox mentioned) and then there's "Business Navigation", which gives a not great interface on the standard 4:3 screen, and "Professional Navigation" which gives you the bigger screen and better navigation system.

Now I'm not for one minute saying I'm right here but I have this 'thing' about product lifecycles and how they relate to purchasing cars for certain amount of money. And this 'thing' tells me that £25k on a discontinued, defunct model is a 'bad thing', whereas £25k on a still current model is probably a 'good thing'.

ie, £25k on a 2004 530d Sport in 2006 would have been a more sensible buy than £25k on a 2008 530d now. It remains current for longer, it therefore holds its value better (As nothing batters the used residuals more than the introduction and subsequent establishment of a new model), etc etc.

Plus replacing an E60 with an E60. Why? Yes the LCI is a better car than the original, arguably its what the original should have been, but it's fundamentally the same sort of thing.

Just what do you GAIN for your cost to change?

My gain is a more reliable car? I have no choice but to replace my current one for fear of it blowing up. I actually understand what you are saying and do agree, but my situation is pretty dire at the moment.

On one hand I have a car with imminent death syndrome which needs to go and to replace it my choices are very limited unless I go the finance route (I really don't want to)

What would you do?

EDIT: Buy this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2007-BMW-3-Se...mobiles_UK&hash=item3cb31cde72#ht_1781wt_1140 :D

Is it? I see your gain as being the same car only a bit newer with the advantage of a warranty for a bit. It's still an E60.

What exactly is wrong with your car that cannot be fixed?

Why don't you like the ZF autobox? It's one of the best out there. Apart from a few software issues I've not seen one thread with problems with them.

You've not seen one thread with problems?

Apart from the one you are replying in, obviously?

So the autobox on my 530 is dead and I need a new car pronto

The first sentance in this thread.

Ok I understand this thread is about that but it isnt a weak link. Have you ever seen any other auto box problems with the ZF box? The old unit in the E39 wasn't to clever but the ZF unit is pretty bullet proof in the E60.
