Anyone been to Paris?

Paris is a very different sort of "France" - having lived in Paris and also other parts of France it's quite hard to stomach the difference for some.

Personally, I love it. I think Paris is wonderful. So much to see and do, good food, and fantastic to just sit and people watch for hours! I personally find it a magical place and much prefer it to London - however, I'm French and also a part-Parisien, however, most of my non French friends have all loved Paris. It just depends on what you're after really. :)

The list of "must dos" is huge, but then again it differs on what sort of thing you're interested in. Clearly all the "famous" landmarks are worth visiting, but also some of the museums and parks.

I went there for New years that just passed, was an awesome time although I didn't do much sightseeing in the few days I was there.

I would say if its just you and the missus would be a good place to go, unless your both fairly young and into the nightlife seen a bit as there isn't much of a nightlife there and it can be quite expensive..

There is an awesome Aussie bar near the Pompidou though that I would recommend as well and you can't really beat champas at a place overlooking the Eiffel tower for romantic either.

Eurostar all the way - dopn't try flying too much hassle by the time you check in etc.

Hotel Duret is really central and is a small but well appointed and inexpensive hotel for a short break. Easy walk to the main central sights.

Wow a lot of mixed feelings towards Paris i shall look online expedia etc I think we shall find it hard as none of us speak any French but i would like to visit the town and see The Louvre & Eiffel Tower

& also shall look at Rome too :D

you might get lucky and experience the best Paris has to offer :)

I hope you do because it is an amazing city, but as with any city it has massive downsides too, the lack of people willing to even attmpt to speak english is one of them

You can easily anvigate around all the main sights in Paris without needing to speak French with any degree of accuracy and without those you communicate with needing to speak English well/at all.

If you want to catch a caberet definitely go to Nouvelle Eve - it is located around the corner from the Moulin Rouge. Mouline Rouge is waaaaay too expensive to be worth it, the other one is about €20-30 and is very entertaining too.

The Louvre, Arch de Triomphe and Champs Elysses are all on one stretch. Notre Dame is good, walk along the Rive Gauche and visit the Muse d'Orsay too. It is also a nice idea to cruise the Seine as you see many of the sights of Paris from the river too.

Been there a few times now. It's a brilliant city, soo much to do and experience!

Would recommend the eurostar as it drops you off in the heart of Paris, you can walk to the nearest cafe and sort your self out from there!
If you get a week long metro card It saves you a load of money as well.

Just watch out for the gypos asking if you speak English

Truth, they sit outside the train station, don't give them anything, once you give one of them some cash they will all come asking.

L'anglais people stick out like a sore thumb, those scummy little ****** latch onto us like magnets, fluff your feathers and look instantly mental that usually gets them to jog on.

Also look at Vienna. We're going in Feburary and it looks lovely, loads of things to do too.

I do like Paris though, have been before and would definitely like to return.

Paris is a lovely city, I'm planning on going back in a few years. There are a few threads floating around, and I'm too lazy to copy my previous posts out so you'll have to search.

One thing though - don't miss Montmartre. Probably the highlight of my trip, the whole area is amazing.

been looking since my last post and i think im for sure going for Rome now. We have been to Italy before (Lake Garda) but never went to Rome so i think this would suit us better than Paris.

Thanks everyone to your insight to paris i can't say when but i would like to visit sometime :D maybe in July or something :D
