Question about the misuse of drugs act.

Cannabis may or may not be 'safer'

It is however very definitely illegal making it rather difficult, neigh on impossible to defend in an alcohol versus puff discussion

What other harm is there?

Cannabis has less effect on others as it does not cause the person to become angry like alcohol can

NO HOTLINKING

Nicotine and Alcohol are both legal ...

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control reported 20,687 “alcohol-induced deaths” (excluding accidents and homicides) in 2003. Source: http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/alcohol.htm

The CDC has no reports of “marijuana-induced deaths.” (In reality, there may be 2-5 deaths each year attributed to marijuana, but this article -- http://bbsnews.net/bw2005-02-01.html -- describes how these are actually deaths attributable to other causes but “blamed” on marijuana due to the way the data is collected.)

There is little evidence, however, that long-term cannabis use causes permanent cognitive impairment, nor is there is any clear cause and effect relationship to explain the psychosocial associations.

That's the point though, why is it illegal while alcohol isn't? Making everyone who enjoys a joint or 2 a criminal is a joke.

Care to find an independent source rather than a site written by bob marley?

Exactly as deko put is Will Gill, if our drug policy was based on science then Cannabis would be entirely legal

Legalise it, tax it, move on to the next thing.

I suspect this thread will be closed in 3....2...

Don't get me wrong I'm quite happy to puff away to my hearts content, that doesnt change the fact that cannabis is illegal.

The cannabis versus alcohol versus nicoteen agument is boring, just accept (as I have) if you smoke puff and get caught you get your wrist slapped, not really the end of the world

I accept that Will Gill as the current situation, but I have to abide by the law

I abide by laws that I see as correct, and not by what some politician with little clue wrote somewhere

I'm sure the judge would be very understanding.

What you might want to do though, is publish a little booklet listing any laws that don't apply to you, and any extra laws that you've decided to apply to yourself. That way the police force in your area can carry it around, and can check against that before arresting you. Otherwise they may arrest you for something that you don't consider to be a crime.

I'm sure the CPS take the same view when they review your "Laws I choose to ignore" form

I'm not a fan of the speed limits in this country, doesnt stop me speeding but it also doesnt stop me being penalised when I'm caught.

At the OP
Tell your mate to ask for a Police Certificate(report) in about 4 months to see if the drugs offence is on it.

If the Australian immigration is anything like the USA he won't get a work visa.
