Hey all,

Just found out from a friend that he's had his car stolen from a hand car wash today. He was going to watch a film, so gave his car and keys to the hand car wash over the road.

He comes back out after the film to an empty parking space. When asking where his car is, the friendly Kosovan cleaners sheepishly tell him in broken English that they had taken £10 from some random guy to pay for the clean, handed over the keys to him and he's then done one in the car. My friend only had the car 3 weeks as well.

Worse than that (and TBH this one was a little silly) he had his house keys, 2 mobiles a Kindle and an iPad in the car. I know that sounds like a insurance job, but he uses them for work and travels a lot so just leaves them in there.

He's informed the police and his insurers and is trying to get hold of the owner of the car wash to find out what kind of liability insurance they have, if any.

So let this be a lesson to all of you - be wary of handing over your keys to have your car cleaned if you're not going to be around to watch them do it.

I find it hard to believe anyone would be that stupid; handing your keys to a random bunch of immigrants and then buggering off to watch a film? There isn't enough facepalms on the internet for this.

I think the lesson here is "Don't be ******* idiot".

A fool and his stuff are easily parted.

How does this guy even breathe for himself!?

Might as well row the boat out and hammer his credit cards before saying they were in there too :)

Do you (does one) really need to give your car keys to them to clean your car? Surely you just plonk it in a space and there it stays until you return?

I think i left my golf clubs in the boot of his car too, make sure he doesnt foget to put them down too!

If you're getting the interior done as well your options are either give them the keys, have them leave the car unlocked and unattended until you can be bothered to collect it or stay and attend the washing session.

When I get the car valeted I use a mobile guy who comes to the works car park that way I can come back down and lock the car as soon as he's done.

The biggest WTF here is why would you pay a bunch of people to put swirl marks into your paintwork with a cheap nasty sponge full of a days worth of grit and small stones on a 3 week old car?

Oh and I think I left my two new ATI 6970s in the back of your mates car, they were under the passenger seat, remember to put those down too.

Never let anyone clean any of my cars, been with my sister in her car when she took it to some hand wash place but we sat in the car while they did it.

It's ok if you go to a decent place. The guy I use is expensive but makes a point of doing the two bucket method and a coat of proper wax and all that other detailingworld crap which is nice to have. Before he comes I remove all the rubbish and any stuff he'd have to move, simply as a matter of courtesy.

Sure he's 10 times more expensive than the local Albanians* operating out of a closed down petrol station, but my car comes back with less scratches rather than more!

* who have been around for ages with no complaints that I am aware of and see plenty of business, but you get what you pay for with a 4 quid hand car wash.

I swear to God this isn't an insurance job. Yes he was dumb to leave as much stuff in the car as he did - not arguing that point.

However while the workers are most likely illegal immigrants, the car wash is well known in Milton Keynes and they have 4 branches. It's a purpose built site, not just 2 ****** and a bucket with a hole in it.

I've had a £10 valet done in a Han car was job. For the price they do an ok job. I've also wandered off to the shop for 10 mins whilst they did it.

However.. Leaving all that gear in the car whilst going to watch a film? ****ing LOL!

Wow, immigrant car washers stole a car?

Really?

So you wouldn't trust the big set ups in a tesco car park either, that is full of immigrants?

Not that i'd leave gear in the car but I wouldn't expect my car to get stolen.
