Im upgrading my old pentium 4 (yes i know ;) system at the moment, I will be upgrading it to a dual core E4700 2.6ghz as thats the most powerful one my board can take (D945GCCRG1). What is best gpu that I could get and also which is the best bang for buck? Btw the system has 2gb of ram and no more can be added, also the board doesn't allow overclocking...

Thanks

I looked up your board and it has a PCI-Express x16 slot, which is good, but it is also only 9.60 × 9.60 inches in size, so I assume you are quite limited for space in your computer case. What PSU do you have? As I would guess you probably don't have a very powerful PSU, which would limit your options, unless you were willing to upgrade that as well.

A good choice might be the Nvidia GTX 460, as it is quite small in size, efficient with power and heat, very good value at the moment, and is a good little workhorse. However, we need to know what PSU you have and how much space you have in your computer case before making solid recommendations.

there is 11" space (without the hd caddy) and the power supply is...

Okay that PSU is 300W and has no PCI-E connectors, which seriously limits your options. For a budget card you could look at the HIS ATI Radeon HD 5670 512MB GDDR5 ICEQ PCI-Express Graphics Card for £71.48 from OCUK. It is small, uses very little power, and is a good workhorse for playing games at medium settings at lower reslutions. I used to own a Radeon 4670 in a PC with a 350W PSU, and I could play Modern Warfare 2 on a 19" monitor quite comfortably.

If I upgrade the psu how much wattage do you reccommend?

It depends completely on what graphics card you want to install. For example, there is little point spending money on an expensive 600W PSU if you only plan to use a budget low-end GPU. To use myself as an example, I upgraded to a 620W PSU as I wanted to buy a Radeon 5850, and leave the potential for further upgrades in the future. I would think that radeon 5670 I posted above would run on your 300W PSU, though I can't say it will 100% definitely be enough juice.

Yeah twinning the E4700 with a GTX 460 and a decent PSU should be fine, in fact that's a pretty nice low-cost setup for okay gaming. What resolution are you playing at? As that will play a big part in determining performance.
