Would this make me a bad person!?

I'd probably run it by a parent first for the sake of family harmony, but in principle there's nothing wrong with accepting a gift from a family member.

If he doesn't need it and you do just accept it. Grand parents love making their family happy and by turning it down he doesn't get to see the joy on your face when you get your new car :)

I'm glad you turned it down. Leaves more for the inland revenue to take when he dies and use towards bailing out a bank or buying some immigrants a new 3 piece suite.

Haha. Inheritance will still **** you over up to 5 years surely?

I assume your joking, but just in case, your a 4 letter C word ;)

Back OT:

My grandads the same, gives me 20 quid a week and refuses to stop it even though im 19 next month lol!

Half the time if I see him about town he'll give me another 20 quid lol :D

He's the nicest man ever though, my friends were walking past his house one day and he was washing his car and asked them if they needed a lift anywhere, are they alright for money etc etc. (And yes he did know them, he wasnt just asking some random kids if they wanted a lift lol :p)

Gran gave me £3,000 for my car, i understand the whole do it yourself mentality, but if i was a grandad i would want my grandkids to have money from me.

my grandad did that, up until I was 30! he only stopped because he died, he always told me I'd have more fun with the cash than he would, I always made a point of saving the notes and actually buying meaningful things with the money and not just feed it into a fruitie, bookie or barstaff!

I am a Grandad & I would be gutted if my Grandson turned down anything i offered him. Take it & share the joy of the new car with him.

take it, buy the motor, take him out in it and update him on it regularaly, he will thrive on this. both my grandads are dead and i miss such conversations.

My grandad is not the kind of guy who would want to come on a drive with me :p

However, I would have course make the offer.

Maybe at least get a nice photo of you both by the car once you've bought it then? As others have said stop feeling guilty and accept the money. :)

I think its nice that you dont want a handout but think of it from his view. He has no use for it, he wants you to

If you're sure he's just doing it to be nice, definitely do it. Gives you a talking point about the work that needs doing to it. No doubt he's got some stories about cars he had years ago :)
