Mini Cooper S fanboy is back.

Well, I'm trying to be realistic, I much prefer the mini but I'm being told left, right and center that I just don't have the funds for it. What's a man to do! (aside from the obvious 'save more money')

Why man? 6K Revs BURRRRRRRRRRRR Love it.

He has the mentality of a 40yr old, that's why.

I personally love the wing on my Teg, it clearly gives significant downforce and is also the perfect height to block out any car more than about 20metres away. Useful function that, but doesn't matter as I spend all the time at 8500rpm anyway..........................................m0 in ma y0

Mini is a horrible girl wagon, all I see are girls in big sunglasses driving the things. That tarted up one on a previous page looks like it has been hits with a halfords stick.

Just go and enjoy some test drives, no matter what we say, reviewers say, figures say, you will fall in love with one of them and just want it (as long as it isn't a vauxhall).

Try out: Ep3 type-r (getting very cheap now), 182, seat leon even, the mini of course, Fiesta ST, then report back either for some back patting or a usual motors grilling :):)

Well MRLOL let's be honest. If the car costs me £5,500 I'm going to have practically hardly anything left to insure it and then maintain it. Just doesn't seem a viable option atm.

Can't you use your monthly wage to help pay for the maintanance and insurance etc? Thats what most people do.

I dont want to delve into your finances or anything like that (I'm supprised nobody else on here has done so by now!) but sounds to me like you should be spending a fair wack less on your new car, get a nice clio for ~£4k and use the other money for insurance and upkeep :)

Thing is you keep coming back to it ?

You obviously really want one. You've been given sensible advice already

The sensible decision would be to steer well clear, because as you say you're stretching your budget and potentially going to run out of money.

But who says all your decisions have to be sensible ? Sometimes you make them with the heart and be stupid

And yes they're stupid, but you still enjoy them.

Up to you.

He has admitted that he's really pushing it, so stop trying to encourage him. Stretching yourself for a car is how you end up a financial mess.

Don't do it.

I did exactly that

Ended myself up in a financial mess.

Did the world end ? No. Would i do things differently again ? No. I loved that car, and have no regrets.

I tried it, couldnt afford it, and sold it and moved on.

EP3's do need repairs though, quite often. My cousins have them so I know, but excellent and fun cars to drive. VTEC is definitely something and the power delivery is nice.

But yeah look at few cars, don't only look at the mini as it is your money/grandfathers so do well with it.

Tis a fair point about why he cant use any spare from his monthly wage to pay for the maintenance upkeep?

Make some sacrifices. If you REALLY want the car but spend lots on drinking/going out then maybe cut back on that? (Just an example, as there are plenty of spending habits you could cut back on to spare some cash up)

To be honest, I don't really drink and i don't smoke. In fact i don't have any expensive habits at all which is part of the reason why i could afford my new car.

It does sound like you are pushing it though to be fair.

So what are the actual differences between the 172 and 182? Aside from the dual exhaust are there any other aesthetic differences?

I work 1 day a week at tesco. I've just graduated and am expecting a call back from a company tomorrow regarding a permanent graduate entry level position so we'll see...

I'm trying to get my foot in the door in the Film and TV industry, it's not easy...even with a degree, 2 work experiences and 2 internships.

To be honest he should drive both and decide on which sort of power delivery he likes best. I test drove an EP3 and whilst fun, i prefered the power delivery of the turbo charged engines a lot more. It just doesnt feel fast at all in my opinion, until you hit VTEC, which means you constantly have to rev it and drive it on the ragged edge which i decided is not for me.

Scratch that then.

Working 1 day a week at tesco i'd not even be bothering with a performance car at all.

I'd be waiting till i've got a proper full time job and got enough to properly afford that Mini you've dreamed of.

Woah, reading through some of that, it seems its not worth me getting a cup for the sake of a bit more speed. Lose out on so many add-ons.

Hm, I would probably wait until you get a half decent full time job before buying a hot hatch in that case.

It is standard

apart from the spoiler on the back, which is an option.

That White one isn't a standard MCS, it's got the JCW aero body kit on and JCW wheels which are all optional extras. In fact I strongly suspect it's a factory JCW car.

I think it's funny how people consider certain cars to be for women, must be an issue for people who are not confident in their own sexuality or need to compensate for the size of their little fellah.

Imagine where you'd be now had you not got into a financial mess.

Probably not driving around in a 'shabby' (Your words!) Volvo.

I have no regrets at all that I didnt stretch myself to the limit to buy an M5.

Cars are great but they are not worth getting into a financial mess over. Not having two pennies to rub together because its all gone on a car is just ridiculous.

You just cant do it on a part time job in a supermarket.

I've never called it shabby.
