Mini Cooper S fanboy is back.

Nope :(

Do a search for my name and those words and nothing that comes up is anywhere near relating go the context of my car.

I pointed out that the wheels were a bit kerbed. i think you took it from there and assumed it was tatty / shabby from that.

EP3's do need repairs though, quite often. My cousins have them so I know, but excellent and fun cars to drive. VTEC is definitely something and the power delivery is nice.

But yeah look at few cars, don't only look at the mini as it is your money/grandfathers so do well with it.

Quite a general statement. My workmate had one and it was pretty damn reliable. Both sides to the coin :)

Yeah true. They do need to be looked after though just like any car. Really fun cars however, but the 2.0L does suck juice.

I'm sure I remember you moaning about how it wasn't in as nice condition as you'd hoped but it was made up for by the price or something. I'm sure I'm not going mad :p

It will have been the kerb'd wheels comments

thats the only thing that was less than immaculate about it.

The servicing i cleared up at a later date - there are two sections in the owners manual. One for 18,000 mile servicing and one for 12,000 mile. I found the 18,000 one completely empty, and found a load of kiwk fit receipts so assumed it had been servied by them and not stamped the book.

I later found the 12,000 mile servicing part of the book that was full of lovely Volvo Dealer Stamps. The kiwk fit bills were only for tyres, and Continental Contisport Contacts at that. It went through 18 of them over its life time including front + back. :D

What he said! It will come down to how well the car is treated and what kind of service history it has. Realistically, the EP3 and MCS will have very similar running costs & very similar performance.

My dad has owned a P1 MCS ([edit]52 plate) since new and has never had a single problem with it - but he looks after it meticulously!

What I also agree with is *don't* spend £6k on a car with your only source of income being a part time job at Tesco. As an example, the MCS has run-flat tyres which can cost upwards of £500 a set to replace.

OP, how did you even plan to fuel the thing if you only work one day in Tesco? Surely that one day will only cover your weekly/fortnightly petrol

Best colour for a 182 :D

It looks like a great example, cup packed version with the anthracite alloys, cup suspension and cup spoiler. Seems to be missing the splitter, but not exactly a deal breaker there. It's had the cambelt changed and replaced the crap standard exhaust with a stainless steel one. Not heard the K-Tec one myself, but seems to get a good review. Any information you need on the cars, head over to cliosport.

For the amount of money you're talking about, the 182 is where I'd head. Cheap to run and maintain, also brilliant fun to drive.

Not drive it very much :p

I spend peanuts on fuel as she is tucked up in the garage most the week and sometimes weekends and gets a good run for fun and going to the gym only.

Bring on the good weather for track action!

Your Dad has an 01 plate Cooper S?

The Cooper S came out on 52 plate. And there isn't an 01 plate.

Apologies, he's got it on a private plate - I knew he had one of the first run so it must be a 52. My point still stands though :)

Driven one of the early Cooper S' before (supercharged). Didnt like it much.

Found it really small too.

What is it with 17-20 year olds wanting a performance car or a car that they know they cant afford.

Kids these days eh

Not exactly rare is it. High insurance prices usually kill the dream anyway.

Also I don't get why youngsters aren't patient. A standard Cooper or any small hatch with a NA 1.6 engine is still enough to provide plenty of driving enjoyment when you haven't driven or acquired a taste for higher performance cars. I occasionally drive a 330D but I honestly would say bombing the Cooper (non-S) round our local B roads is considerably more fun if you're looking for a raw, involving driving experience. They still crack 60mph in around 8.8 seconds and offer reasonably strong performance in the 40-70 region. Obviously the BMW feels like a warp drive on the motorway though, comparatively :D

Better to have some fun while you're young than wait until it is too late :)

He drives a Toyota Yaris at 27, I'm not sure why he hangs around in Motors as he isnt interested in cars and only seems to post to wind everyone up about immigrants or how everyone should just drive a small car.

Toyota yaris you say
