i bought a 6970 even though i was a bit concerned about heat and noise levels but ive found the card to be anything but this, for instance i clocked it to 950/1450 and ran msi kombuster and after 1/2 hr my max temps were 60c and idle the card sits at 30c all with the fan on auto which is cooler than my old 5770 crossfire, so the bottom line is have i just got lucky with a good card or are they better than people thiink,im now giving serious thought to getting another for crossfire, i know some will say just get a 6950 and flash it but for me if i want a 6970 then just get the 6970 and be done with it

running single cards will always be cooler and therefore quieter than dual cards, dual cards restricts the airflow quite greatly and put 2 heatsources next to each other
Also it depends on how much demand youre placing on them, if your res is low (less than 1920x1080) then the card wont be getting stressed much so will be running at say 50% load thus again producing less heat, less heat means the fans dont have to spin so much therefore less noise

Mine sounds like I have a flock of helicopter gunships in my case especially when benchmarking with it that said it lives in an antec 300 not exactly a great cooling case

What case you're using old gamer, as your temps looks way too low, unless you live in siberia and you keep your case outside :D mine idles at 40 with fan at 24% in CM690 with 5 fans...

As a user of 5770 xfire and trifire then 5870 xfire to a single 6970 i would say im fairly on board with the ati running temp and a 6970 oc to its current max and in kombuster at load is 1 of 3 things.

1. complete and utter B$, sorry a lot of people like to brag online i have no idea why
2. you live in north pole and your room temps are -
3. The software is giving incorrect temps/error

60c load o/c in kombuster may be possible on water but not air not a chance

Have another go with a game mate and try some different temp apps

Single digit room temperature in degrees celsius, replace TIM and ideal air flow would make this plausible I think. Idle of 30C is more than plausible with just decent airflow, I get low to mid 30's with system fans in power saving/quiet mode (ASUS EPU).

Ofcourse the most plausible reason would still be 3rd party software without the correct calibrations.

935/1450. fan at 50%

I have a hiper orisis case with 2 slow spinning 120m fans at the front and i added another in the side, no i dont live in siberia bristol in fact, got to say im a bit took back at being accused of lieing and tryng to bragg, all im saying is i have a 6970 that runs much cooler than i ever expected

Think you took it wrong mate, people are saying 6970 DO NOT run at 60c load on a stress test on auto fan on air cooling, your can have any case you like it wont happen. The only thing that makes sence is as mmj said these cards throttle in Furmark/Kombuster or your temp software is reading it wrong. Try a game mate and monitor the temps, a game wont pull the sort watts causing it to throttle and will prob have the normal 80c(ish) that every ones else has

Try looping Heaven for half an hour and you should see temps hit >80deg at those clocks. If not, your temperature sensor is busted or you live in an igloo.

As Al said dont think anyones accusing you of lying, just that on the face of it the facts dont add up and theyre trying to understand why

As a point you prob dont want the side fan on, these are gimmicks which dont actually help airflow as it disturbs the cases natural airflow from front to back, you actually end up with slightly higher gpu temps, I did same with my old Antec 1200 originally, til I saw the light
