Tell me about f10 and e60 520

Not as yet. I'm in work, using the internet on the sly :D

I would like to take it to a transmission specialist first to get their opinion as I don't trust BMW now seeing as a whole recon gearbox from another dealer is £1500.

Another BMW dealer? - Thats not good! I understand your mistrust.

Drop FAB a parts request/enquiry, at least you can do that from the office via the link I posted. :)

If I can get a recon gearbox, there are a few companies around who will fit it for £400 including the oil, which sounds a little better to me. ONe or two thought BMW are trying to tuck me up with the gearbox being relatively young.

I think they are right, BMW seem to have the rubber gloves & vaseline ready & waiting!

Talking of the 'box's age, have BMW not offered any "goodwill"?

Its worth a shot write to BMW GB (in Bracknell iirc) - My old man got a new head for mums e46 when the old one cracked at circa 50k miles, the local dealers did not want to know....

Disregard the monkey, go straight to the organ grinder.

There is more of a chance of hell freezing over than BMW paying out on a 7 year old car from a car supermarket with a failed gearbox.

Its worth a shot, but i'm rubbish at writing letters. What did you put in your letter to BMW?

My old man composed the letter, basically pointing out that 50k was low miles for a head failure, and given BMW is supposedly a "premium" brand, he thought it unacceptable. He also bemoaned the dealers attitude, and iirc threatened to not replace his companys fleet of e46's with BMW (which may have been the Golden ticket!)

To be fair, the car was only 4 years old at the time, purchased from new - direct from BMW - by my Dads business & subsequently passed to my mum when it was due for replacement.

It had a full BMW s/h at the time.

Sadly it was raining so I felt there wasnt much point as there wont be anything wrong with a 58 plate car you can see when its covered in water.

I'll try as soon as its dry :)

No problems, thanks anyway.

When you part ex a car, do they actually check there isn't a gearbox problem if the car is already at the dealers? hmmmmmm. Lol.

where did a 7 series come from??

you cant afford to fix your current e60 but you are buying a 535 which has the highest running costs?? the 520 made sense because you can buy one still under warranty, now I'm lost :p

Is there anything to be aware of with 535d?..... I might have a way out of my predicament.

Yes, they are much more expensive than the other cars in the range, so much so that you end often up paying quite a lot of money for an older car.

£23,000 for a 4 year old BMW 5 Series.

What should I really be looking at? Its not that I can't afford to fix my current car, its just I have a problem with paying BMW 3k to replace parts that come to less than £200.
