Tell me about f10 and e60 520

Then put it in the local auto transmission place and give them 1200 quid with a years warranty.

Sorry me heads away with the fairies at the moment, where is the car and where are you?

Surely any competent auto specialist will rebuild that gearbox?

Its ok Mark, its understandable at the moment. Im in Port Talbot, working in Cardiff, the car is in Swansea. The problem I have is that the hours I work mean I can only deal with this on the weekends and BMW are now hassling me to take my car away.

I've rung about 7 "specialists" who all give me different numbers to ring. There is a guy who specialises in BMW gearboxes, but his attitude seems almost like its too much trouble for him to look at.

Amazing i cant believe your having this drama. It seems daft to knock in 20k on a new car just for a gearbox if your otherwise happy with the car though.

Have you tried Cardiff and Swansea auto box places?

If I am honest, I don't really know what to do. My thinking is that if I buy a AUC car, it has some warranty, which I can then extend with warrantydirect (as I should have done in the first place)

I've tried 11 autobox places in Swansea. I can't really do Cardiff places as I would have to transport it down there.

Find out how much in Cardiff and get them to pick it up, if they are doing the job they will only charge 50 quid to recover it im sure.

Or you roll it out of where it is now and call the AA let them recover it to Cardiff if there is someone there that can do it.

Or you say **** it all and buy a 535 for 20k and bin that one :D

Well I have a confirmed compatible gearbox that I can buy for £700. If it takes £400 (including oil) to fit it, am I better off driving it in the hope it doesn't die again or should I chop in my now working car for another.

The reason I suggested either the 535 or 730 is because that is what is at the dealers, so I wouldn't have to pick the car up, just leave it with them.

Me personally i would never buy a second hand gearbox full stop, i'd have no problem having one rebuilt with a 12 month warranty but not a second hand one, especially at that price with fitting is the same as having yours rebuilt give or take.

Imagine the ****** if the second hand one is ****ed, your 400 quid worse off for fitting even if you get the 700 quid back and 2 weeks down the line no nearer getting fixed.

Do what i said, in Cardiff there must surely be an auto box specialist that can do the job and recover your car 38 miles from Swansea.

Then you got time on your side to buy a new car, none of this rushing into a 7 series just because its there now.

I agree with what the big man said

surely the new gearbox comes with a new gearbox warranty?? if not buy one that does

The gearbox in question comes with 60 days warranty. Rebuilt gearboxes start at 2k. I phoned around and that was the best price I got for a rebuild.

I know you hear this all the time but my man here will do yours for 1300 quid all in, 2k sounds dear to me.

Do I fix my car and carry on or fix my car, sell it and get a much younger one though?

Im no good at this advice, but if it was me i would fix it, then take my time looking for a new one, rather than rushing in.

Also why spend 20, spend 10, get plenty of decent cars for 10k.

Well if I did buy a newer car, I would want to part ex my old car for 8k and the rest from savings, so it would be 12k

Get yours fixed, give yourself time to think on things :) Dont do one of my specials and buy the day you have the plan :)
