On our way up their now from York looking for English sort of food ,steak , Lasagne that sort of stuff.

Anyone suggest some places ,we are stopping on Hobson road Travel Inn nothing fancy but the usual crap beefeater fayre you get next door to these places.

Any help would be great as its a last minute dash up there and are a bit pushed for time otherwise we'd have a walk round and find somewhere ourselves :)

Best places in shield are pubs along the sea front unless you want Italian food but tbh you'll be best going to Newcastle

KaHn

Go to Newcastle! One of my favorite restaurants is Uno's down by the Quayside. Ah, just read steak, lasagne. maybe not then :P, this is an italian.

To be honest, most pubs in Shields are much the same food wise. There's a great selection of Indian restaurants in the town centre, as Kahn says there is also a few Italian. Head to Ocean Road, you should find something.

So basically head for the pubs on ocean road? Indian out of the question as my other half does not like curries. Where's this awesome chip shop?

For English food you are probably limited to pub grub, all pretty generic but The Mile in South Shields does awesome home made burgers.

Ocean Road has an abundance of awesome indian restaurants. When I was home over christmas I discovered that Paprika was my new favourite Curry house there, top food and service imo :)

The chip shop highly rated is Colemans on ocean road. You will probably see queues outside at times.

I like Smiths chippy myself. On ocean road too but a bit further along.

I go there odd times. A couple of years ago it used to be around £2.50 for a meal at lunchtime :p it's around the average now and still full!

Student discounts at lunchtimes, about £5 for a pizza during weekdays :D. Really like it, great atmosphere and great food.

Well if you're willing to go a bit further north... into North Shields then Bruno's is a great Italian. Great food, great people and you can't complain about the price. Can just walk across the road and be on the beach too.
