Smoking is becoming a very expensive habit, so much so I've decided the 120 odd quid a month i waste on them can be better served elsewere.

It's got me thinking why do people that smoke, smoke basically to feel normal.

well im not paying over 100 quid anymore just to feel normal.

Few years ago i did pack in for over 8 months but the stress of work got me starting again.

This time it going to be for good.

I've decided the money i spend daily on smokes, will go into a tin & while im suffering, I look into the tin and see how much dosh im saving by not buying them, this should help me though it.

It's going to be hard for the first 2 weeks, but i know what to expect as i've gone cold turkey before, & don't believe in using nicotine patches, gum ect as your still getting your addiction.

So starting from tomorrow morning as it always better to start from when you wake up im going to be smoke free. :)

DO it, ive had flu for a week and now been without a cig for 3 days.

Im thinking iof i can do 3 days maybe i can do forever too. Now seems like a good as time as any!

I gave up last year. It was easy. I'm on a diet now and it's easy too.

I found it impossible to cut down though, so if you have a similar personality to me then it might work for you.

It's simple because you know you can't have a cigarette at all, you can't have a drag of one. You need to know if you do, then everything has been a waste and you're a smoker again. You have to touch no cigarette at all. I smoked for 20 years and gave up on the first attempt. The difficult part is deciding to give up, once that's done it's easy.

Good luck.

As odd as it sounds, continue to draw out £120/month and put it into a different account / savings account. It's when you make actions like that will you see just how much you're saving.

Do you hang around with friends that smoke? If you do, I'd suggest just for the first few weeks you slightly isolate yourself, then gently come back in again. I'm sure your friend will understand, that way you won't feel the effects of peer pressure as much when its the hardest.

I have given up since new year, mostly due to swine flu though :p

I'm lucky and find it very easy to walk away, I was probably smoking 20-30 a day and have done since I was 13.

last time I gave up was for two years.

When I do finally make it out of bed I'll instantly appreciate my cars not stinking like an ash tray, my clothes smelling nicer and an extra couple of quid more to waste on something else :p

I wish you luck it's a silly habit but one I do love :(

Good luck :)

A mate of mine at work who had been smoking for over 20 years decided to finally quit about 3 months ago and he said it's been one of the best things he has ever done. Since the day he quit he has been putting that fiver away that he used to spend on a packet of fags into a pot and it's the money is still being added as we speak.

I remember him saying the other day that he has just about saved up £300 now and he's absolutely loving it but the only downside to it all is that he has put on a little bit of weight but he has started to exercise more now too. The route he took to quit was by getting these new prescription pills from his doctor and they worked brilliantly, he previously tried patches in the past but he said they were next to useless.

Do it!

There's many other reasons to quit, you'll be more fit, teeth won't be so yellow, skin will look better, your breath won't smell so bad :p etc etc.

Put it towards another hobby, something more healthy :) Not sure of your age/fitness and what your into but I love a bit of Airsoft every month :D

Thanks for the words of encouragement :)

I think the hardest part is when i have a cup of coffee, i always have a cig afterwards at the backdoor or in the garden .

Good luck. I stopped gold turkey. The money you save is good, depending on if you spent a lot on cigs. It's a bad habbit, and your better off without them.

Do it, the first week is the hardest and you're already half way there
