My mate has got himself in a right mess with the police..

Firstly what a ****

If he had any balls which he clearly hasnt he would come clean.
But clearly he will not and he deserves whats coming to him.

Personaly my phone insurance covers loss with just a £20 excess.
Hopefully your "MATE" will learn form this but i doubt it.

should have said he got pick pocketed? :p

Not sure if that works with insurance claims though or if the police actually give you any form of reference? In case they find a culprit with stolen devices in the area.

I must admit iv been to the holland police to get a crime ID, saying my camera got stolen, basically we were staying in a hostel in amsterdam and my mates locker got broken in to and stuff nicked, technically my camera didnt get nicked but I made up a little white lie saying it was in with his stuff.

Not actually sure if insurance fraud falls under "little white lie"! :D

Your mate sounds like a class A fool and I hope he gets what he deserves.

This is all I have to say on the matter.

Simple. He doesn't carry on any further.

You don't have to press charges (which would be the only point in reporting a crime), or report a crime committed on yourself.

fishy story, it reads to me as if it's actually you that has done this, especially as its 5am in the morning when most non-guilty people are sleeping :p

either way, not crime of the century, the old bill should hopefully be able to spot someone lying so hopefully the sgt is coming to give you - sorry i mean your mate - a bit of an arse tearing. Personally I'd ring and tell them you have swine flu and you cba to persue it any further.

Hmmm, £5 a month for phone insurance or criminal record?

Tough one that...

ags

What you on about? either way he would need to pay £5 a month

If he went to the police, got a crime ID number, it would be useless without phone insurance

The police get countless scrotes coming in claiming to be mugged just so they can get a free phone. It sounds like he's going to end up getting done for wasting police time, if he's convicted of it then he could serve up to 6 months inside.

My mates not a bad person but...

Seriously? For starters he'd considered insurance fraud for something as trivial as a new phone and then makes up a story involving knife crime.

Well hopefully whatever the outcome he learns to be a little less dishonest and a lot less naive.
