How to eat 200g of protein a day?

i hate boiled eggs, so i prefer to fry. if you are frying (anything, not just eggs) make sure to get some ground nut oil. (olive oil is for salads, not cooking with, coconut oil is just as good as ground nut oil, but its like £8 a litre and ground nut is like £1.50 a litre).

What about veg oil?

Thanks everyone, I just did a large Ocado shop including chicken, bananas, eggs, milk, peanut butter, peanuts [dry roasted], lots of mackerel [my favourite], fish fingers[!] wholegrain rice, pasta, bread.... and beer!

I'm actually several weeks into my workouts and all is going well, will update you all periodically.

Is there an online calculator to work out roughly how much protein is needed for a given BW and target BW?

Best thing to do is to work out you BMR/RMR, then use the Harris Benedict formula to workout the calorie requirements.

As a general rule, people go for 1-1.2g of protein for every lean lb of muscle mass. i.e. if you weight 200lbs @ 10% = 180lbs, therefore 180g of protein.

There is no exact science as each person's metabolism is different.

Use walnut/nut oils, or olive oils.

Make sure in future, that it is wholemeal pasta - fish fingers are a little naughty, but tbh the batter's not that bad. Bread's not brilliant, but I understand how hard it is to write it out of one's life! Nothing wrong with the occaisional beer ;) Nuts are better unroasted and unsalted really. I take it you have lots of green veg too? Spinach, kale, broccolli etc? Oh and just veg in general really. :)

Don't worry about red meat too - if you have a majority of meat coming from poultry and fish, you can allow yourself some meals with red meats too.

Well, I can live without bread, but just thought I should include it. I'm more than happy not to, it makes me feel tired a lot of the time. Lots of winter vegetables in the fridge.

Oh, and I always eat wholemeal pasta/rice/bread. Don't like the white stuff. I stopped eating it years ago in my weight loss phase [89 kilos to 62 kilos in six months].

Cool seems you're ontop of things really. :)

The bread I now eat is Food Doctor multi seed pitta's - useful for holding lots of protein inside (better than regular bread).

Or alternatively, make your own bread - it will necessarily be better for you as it'll contain a lot less processed/refined ingredients. That's the main thing I keep away from with carbs - the number of refined ingredients they use. :(

Carbs are necessary for bulking, but also necessary for energy in general - sure you can get all your energy without them, and that's how the keto diets and low carb diets work - but if you get it right you can keep trim in spite of eating carbs.

Been thinking about this. We do have a load of these things in the freezer, and I just had six for lunch with scrambled eggs, wholemeal toast and beans. Are fish fingers that bad? There are loads of people on other forums who say they are. If they are, I'll just have to eradicate them from my diet.

On weekends I'll eat pitta breads with 7 fish fingers in each :)

They are a little naughty like Freefaller said, but once in a while won't hurt anyone

No not that bad, as they are majority fish, to be honest there's a lot worse out there, and if you diet is as good as you've listed, a little batter on some fish fingers isn't really that big a deal.

as long as your not frying them, then you should be fine, the rest of your diet looks spot on.

i cook my fish (cod fillets in batter/breadcrumbs and fish fingers) in my george foreman. usually have them with waffles and beans. but your eggs, toast and beans is a lot better.

well done keep up the good work.

OK great, I'll keep them on the list then. And I always grill, never fry. No butter on the toast either since I don't really like butter: as well as that my family has a low tolerance to cholesterol so the less of that stuff the better - when I have to use something oily I use olive oil.

I get about 180g Protein and 150g Carbs currently, if i bulk, my carbs will obviously go higher than my protein intake, but my protein intake will also increase.

I fry everything with nut oil and butter - but I also grill, so it's 50/50. My cholesterol is just over 4 which is bang on the money and I haven't cut out butter or all sat fats either. You need cholesterol and sat fats to build muscle - well to boost testosterone levels really.

Obviously if you have family history do what you see fit and have been advised, however butter isn't the evil that people say it is. :) Neither is frying, if you use the right ingredients, and are sensible. However, this comes with practice, studying and being rather anally retentive about stuff like this! :p

Moderation and variation is the key. :)

Keep doing what you're doing. :) If you can afford to replace shakes with food, do it, but if you can't then don't worry about using shakes.

noobie question inc!

I am not very good at eating in general but looking to get myself into a better diet and hopefully bulk up a bit in process.

How effective are home made shakes and can anyone suggest stuff to add that may be a bit unusual but alo very good (no semen thanks! lol)

As i cant stand the taste of most food and have always been a fussy eater i think i will be better getting the good stuff from a shake, as i have the ability to be able to drink stuff without tasting it very much at all! lol
