I am buying a Corsa

Shouldn't that be a Mondeo?

I thought that's what we were suppose to do in spec threads?

1) Read the requirements (optional)
2) Ignore them
3) ???
4) Mondeo

No I think what we are supposed to do in spec me threads is jump on a forum bandwagon and **** the forum off?

There isn't a Mondeo love-in, they just happen to be excellent cheap all rounders. So when somebody wants an all rounder they tend to get recommended one.

Not really the case for the OP, mind, he's after a small hatch.

LMAO!!! :D

Seriously though, @OP - Steer clear of Corsa's. There are so many more small cars in that class that drive better than a Corsa, it would be silly to chuck your money in that direction.

Look at the Yaris or for a 2k budget you could pick up a nice Polo. Hardly earth shattering stuff but that's not what your looking for I'm guessing.

Ok a serious post and some info if you really want a corsa, my mum has one and I also still have one although I never seem to drive it as I gave it to the gf after owning it for a year. Both are corsa c's one is a 55 plate 1.2 twinport and the other my gf little run around is a 56plate 1.4 twinport. The 1.4 has literally never gone wrong, it been serviced at the recommended intervals and has given 50k of cheap motoring. It has however had one recall for abs so its worth checking the car your buying has had the relevant recalls.

As for the 55 plate 1.2 thats a different story, at 35k miles and one month out of warranty the cam shaft snapped in 2 while on a motorway journey, it is a common fault in 1.2 corsas on 05 and 55 plates and seems to straggle plates either side. Specifically look out for ZE serial number engines and any engine numbers which originate from spain
between 04 and late 06 as this seems to be the thing all the failures have in common.

Just so you know this fault was nasty and the engine was scrap the repair cost from vauxhall would have wrote off a 3 year old car, luckily we sourced an engine off the bay and it went in at a total cost of £500 fitted.

Give this forum a read before buying and aviod a lemon.

+1 for any of the above mentioned options over a Corsa.

The fiesta, ibiza, fabia, focus are all better to drive and better built.
Unfortunately a short test drive won't show you what a car is really like to live with day to day.

OK, not that often ;)

To put it another way... I've known a few people who've had trouble with clutches in Vauxhalls.

My clutch is nearly on 100'000 and isn't on its way out any time soon, and I definitely do not treat it properly.

I may have to start a poll as it could be interesting. I am thinking again of considering alternative cars now.

Why would you need a poll for the car YOU are buying?

This forum can be very helpful but you need to remember it's your money that will be used to buy it and you will be driving it everyday. Make sure you test drive everything then you can make an informed decision. If you like the Corsa and it makes financial sense then why not go for it?
