Inatalled a new optical drive in my mates PC yesterday and thats based on an AMD 3700+ SanDiego with just 512Mb RAM. Talk about slow

I should have upgraded it years ago (its now 8 years old ) but keep getting told "No" by the parents.

My Galaxy S and my Samsung NC10 are both single core. Use the NC10 daily. Can't wait for some dual core netbooks to come out though.

I don't.

I play source games (just barely) with DX8 and everything (including eyes, mouths tongues) filtered by configs.

Games look like a feature less DOOM game Gives me around 20-30 fps though, so I can just about manage competitive play in TF2, and CS:S (where due to fewer players its minimum is around 25, average of 30).

I Still got a P4 3ghz with HT kicking about somewhere, it might possibly still work if I felt the need to power it on

my old pc with its 3700 a64 sandiego is still running in the back room here, upgraded to a phenom II 955 rig over a year ago

It is far to slow for what I do.

How much RAM is in that Redmint? My Aunty has the 3800+ and 1gb of 400mhz DDR2. It's running Vista, very, very badly.

Upgraded from a 3ghz p4 @ 3.2ghz to an i3 540 @ 4.2ghz in early december... and that P4 is now making up my computer at another house for less hardcore gaming

I think many of us have become so used to multicore, we forget that single core still can do a fine job. The machines that I have mentioned still run everything really well too for most tasks, not slow in the slightest. Powerusers needed the multicore however. It was like a gift from the heavens!

Most PC in officers, shop, call centres and so on use single cores because big company's don't like to flash the cash when not needed, and that why when ever you call anybody for tec support there's always a system problem

My dad's PC is still an Athlon XP 3200+. You have to go make a drink while it's booting but otherwise it's not bad.

My spare PC has the same CPU. Still works ok for surfing and films with 4GB of RAM and a 1TB Samsung F1 HDD.

Got one of these with a Pentium 4 3ghz with HT, 2.5GB of DDR2, Nvidia 7600 Zalman and a 1TB HD as a home media server, runs 24/7 and has done since 2004
