I am buying a Corsa

My advice, is ignore what your head is telling you, go and drive one, then drive a Clio/Focus and all the other cars mentioned..

I spent ages driving all the different models of cars before I bought my last car, some where far better then I expected, some far worse, you soon realise that although not every model in a range may handle as badly as people suggest on here, some models do, and you wouldn't want to have instant buyers remorse...
 
When I got my Focus back in May, it reduced my insurance by only about £5 a month but even though it's a 1.6 and my last Fiesta was a 1.2 but still the Focus for me is cheaper to insure than a 1996-2002 Fiesta. When I was looking to change cars in 2008 to upgrade from my old 205, I was looking at Corsa's & Astra's at the time too and they were significantly more expensive to insure compared to Fords.

I would still pick the Focus anyday though as it just has the best comfortable ride compared to the the Fiesta & Corsa.

All were pants, moved on to a Focus, which is a much superior car in all respects, apart from the mpg :o

If they were all pants and you then moved onto a much better Focus:

a) Why did you buy 3?
b) Why did you used to go made and flame us when we said it was pants?

Even though I utterly love my car, it has faults (LOADS) 54 plate Corsa, a very kind gift from my Dad after passing my test. Please do not buy one. It was however the cheapest thing I could insure basically but if I was buying myself I'd rather pay more insurance and have a better car. Ride is bone shattering, engine is like a wet cloth, interior is made from old wheel trims (wheel arch trim things like to fall off!) if however you're still buying a Corsa which I doubt, make sure its atleast an SXI+ or an SRi nothing less!
 
I wanna know what he got!

having a 1.2L ''96 corsa and not having had any real issues with it so far (clocking in at 130k miles and I got it at 75k about 5 years ago).

my 1.2 corsa b was a great wee car, cheap insurance and really good on the fuel - wouldn't have changed it if someone in a an audi hadn't ran into the back of me!!

i had a clio previously which wasn't as good on the juice and ran into some problems, but that was an older one too, no idea what the new ones are like, but wouldn't buy one ahead of a corsa, the girlfriend has a polo 1.4 which is pretty nice, but a bit more on the insurance than either clio or corsa
 
1.2 Clio or Yaris. 1.2 Clios are simple cars that are fun enough to drive and apart from the interior quality, fairly reliable. The interior will fall to pieces on you though. Expect to go to the scrap yard for a new door handle for example!

I have never driven a Yaris, however the specs and insurance on the 1.0l make it one of the cheapest cars possible to run.

Saying that, I drove my mates Focus the other day whilst my MR2 was out of action and I was thoroughly impressed with the handling. Brilliantly chuckable. Performance was pretty poor for a 2.0l though.

My advice is
1) Work out how much you can/want to afford
2) Run insurance quotes for the corsa through a comparison website to find the cheapest insurer.
3) Go to that insurers website and tweak the quote to make sure it's accurate (if it happens to be Admiral say you park on the street as that is cheaper than parking on your drive or in a garage for some reason!). Also add both you parents to your insurance.
4) Stay on the insurers website and run some quotes for alternative cars with different spec levels to create a short list of cars that you can afford to insure.
5) Test drive the short list of cars and buy the one you like the most.

You'll get a good idea of the insurance price of a car from it's insurance group (unsuprisingly!). These can be found here. In my experience (on Admiral) grandad cars aren't cheap to insure because no youngsters drive them. The cheapest cars to insure have the lowest insurance group. Simple.

what exactly is wrong with it?
 
Out of interest what are the Mazda3 hatchbacks like? Any good or inferior to the Focus?

a)freeish
b)not in 20 parts
c)no dents
d)1.4 16v corsa, drove one for a while and it was nice.

needs a polish and maybe some welding I'd guess then it's a runner!
